Jinpachi Tōdō grew up at his family’s historic Meiji-era hot springs inn, Toudou-An, in Hakone. Despite childhood hiking trips building natural endurance, he initially avoided athletics to focus on fashion and appearance. His cycling journey started reluctantly when middle school friend Shusaku Itokawa challenged him to the Hakone Road Hill Climb. Tōdō refused at first, worried about helmet hair and his noisy "Super Shopping Cart" mamachari bike, until he discovered pedaling with maximum efficiency created silent riding he deemed cool.
During practice with Shusaku, Tōdō’s unexpected competitiveness overrode his vanity—he pushed through discomfort, ignored messy hair, and won on the mamachari, igniting his passion. He entered the actual race in stylish clothes but grew serious upon learning of the mountain prize. After Shusaku’s injury, Tōdō borrowed his Ridley road bike and won, marking his first Ridley use and the birth of his "Mountain God" persona. He adopted headbands post-race, modifying one from event manager Minami to manage his appearance.
As Hakone Academy’s cycling club vice-captain and ace climber, Tōdō combined strategic calm during the captain’s absences with team-bonding outings disguised as training. His flamboyant persona highlighted his fanclub and beauty, yet he showed genuine concern for teammates’ well-being, discouraging unhealthy shortcuts. Beneath the theatrics, he remained observant and grounded, spotting peers’ strengths and struggles. His "Sleeping Beauty" racing technique—silently accelerating past rivals—earned him the covert nickname "Forest Ninja."
Tōdō’s intense rivalry with Yusuke Makishima peaked during high school, their thirteen pre-Inter High clashes ending 8:7. He vowed to settle the tie at the Inter High, maintaining contact beforehand to ensure both were primed. When Makishima initially avoided their mountain duel, Tōdō shed frustrated tears. Their final-kilometer battle ended with Tōdō’s narrow victory, prompting a heartfelt exchange of gratitude. He later prioritized team loyalty over personal glory, ignoring provocations from rival Akira Midousuji.
Post-graduation, Tōdō joined Tukushiba University’s cycling team, retaining his personality and "Sleeping Beauty" style. He continued collecting headbands and quirks like eating whole broccoli stalks. An ear piercing symbolized his step back from the family inn, though he occasionally used inn resources for White Day gifts, living on a 4500-yen monthly allowance. He stayed connected to ex-teammates like Makishima, sending birthday messages. His Ridley bicycle preference reportedly boosted the brand’s sales among female cyclists, landing him in their 2014 catalog.
