Description
Enki is a millennia-old demon, among the most powerful in the Demon World and classified as Upper S Class. He is married to Kokou, a formidable demon and an old friend of Raizen. Standing nearly nine feet tall, Enki possesses an imposing build that is both muscular and stout. His features include reddish skin, yellowish-brown hair, a goatee, and two small, drill-like horns protruding from his forehead. He typically wears a white tank top and dark blue jeans. The manga depicts him with a less muscular physique, a broader, squarer face, and black, curlier hair.
Despite his fearsome rank, Enki exhibits a laid-back and polite demeanor. He is honest, honorable, and shows respect toward his opponents, though his intelligence and enthusiasm for combat are unmistakable. His patient nature allows him to manage his assertive wife, Kokou, with ease.
After Raizen’s death, Enki and Kokou traveled to Raizen’s kingdom to pay their respects and acknowledge Yusuke Urameshi as Raizen’s son. Enki participated in the Demon World Tournament alongside Raizen’s other old allies, vowing to make the competition brutal and challenging in honor of his late friend. During the preliminaries, he was seen calmly smoking a pipe atop a heap of defeated fighters.
Enki won the tournament by overcoming a weakened Yomi and Mukuro in the finals, securing his position as the new king of the Demon World. Under his rule, Yomi and Mukuro became his subordinates. He decreed that demons must refrain from causing trouble in the human world and initially planned a three-year reign before holding another tournament. However, his rule became permanent, and the Demon World Tournament was institutionalized as a regulated successor to the Dark Tournament.
In the manga’s epilogue, Enki is portrayed as a somewhat indolent ruler, often relaxing in bed with Kokou. He also attended a party hosted by Koenma.
In the OVA, Yusuke Urameshi contacts Enki for assistance when a radical Spirit World faction seizes the Gates of Judgement and takes Koenma and Botan hostage. Due to a bad back, Enki cannot intervene directly but uses his influence to compel Hiei to aid Yusuke.
Enki’s abilities include Energy Concealment, allowing him to control and suppress his latent energy. He can fly through energy manipulation and possesses the superhuman strength and speed characteristic of Upper S Class demons, enabling him to defeat numerous opponents effortlessly.
As the first ruler to unify the Demon World, Enki’s victory established enduring peace between demons and humans.
