TV-Series
Description
Charlotte Elwyn "Shirley" Yeager hails from Myra, West Virginia, born to farming parents with two younger brothers and two younger sisters. Before her military career, she blazed to fame as a motorcycle racer, repeatedly shattering land speed records on Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats aboard a modified Indian motorcycle equipped with a magic engine. This earned her the moniker "Glamorous Shirley" and cemented her reputation for unparalleled velocity.

Enlisting in the Liberion Army Air Corps in 1943, her profound mechanical knowledge and prior military connections smoothed her entry despite initial hurdles. After training, she secured assignment to the 363rd Fighter Squadron within the Elite Eighth Air Force. Audacious unauthorized modifications to her Striker Unit nearly caused expulsion, but her exceptional skill instead earned a transfer to the 501st Joint Fighter Wing as a Flying Officer.

Within the 501st, Shirley showcased extraordinary combat prowess while emerging as a spirited mood-maker, notably aiding Francesca Lucchini's integration. Frequent confinement for infractions—ignoring orders or damaging equipment—didn't prevent a promotion to Flight Lieutenant, though the paperwork initially vanished. A defining moment unfolded during beach training: intercepting a high-speed Neuroi after Lucchini accidentally altered her Striker Unit overnight, Shirley unintentionally shattered the sound barrier to become history's fastest Witch. This feat remained unrecorded due to absent witnesses.

Following Gallia's liberation and the 501st's disbandment, Shirley and Lucchini journeyed to North Africa, joining the 31st Joint Fighter Squadron. They fought across Mediterranean and African theaters in defense and recapture missions. Severed from Liberion supply lines, Shirley improvised with local resources, acquiring a distinctive red Britannian uniform while securing motorcycle parts. After Venice's fall, they reunited with the reformed 501st in Romagna. During testing of Ursula Hartmann's prototype Jet Striker Unit (Me 262 Swallow), Shirley lost interest once Lucchini detected malfunctions. Later, when Gertrud Barkhorn fainted mid-flight in the unit, Shirley executed a supersonic rescue, yanking the emergency release cable.

Shirley embodies a thrill-seeking spirit, obsessed with velocity and dreaming of breaking the sound barrier. She prioritizes cleanliness, transporting her personal bath to every base. Confident and sociable, she maintains an individualistic, freedom-loving ethos yet shoulders unit duties when required. Her mechanical genius extends to maintaining and modifying Strikers, vehicles, and gear. She displays reckless daring—charging unarmed at Neuroi or driving military trucks with aggressive drifts and canyon jumps.

Her closest bond is with Francesca Lucchini, treating her like a kid sister—allowing cuddles in her bosom and championing her pranks and adventures. She mentors Yoshika Miyafuji and Lynette Bishop while nurturing a fierce rivalry with Gertrud Barkhorn, underpinned by mutual professional respect. Fellow Liberion Witch Francie Gerard openly admires her.

Shirley's primary magical ability, "Speed Boost" (超加速), classified under the Telekinetic lineage, enables exponential velocity increases when focused—unconsciously utilized even during her land speed records. This makes her the unit's specialist for intercepting high-speed Neuroi. Her mechanical talents encompass aircraft/vehicle restoration, radio wave detector assembly, and Striker optimization. As a trusted test pilot, she articulates precise technical metrics, earning engineers' confidence. Her combat tactics involve distant observation before exploiting enemy weaknesses with blistering strikes.

Her Striker Unit is a modified North Liberion P-51D Mustang nicknamed "Merlin" after its Rolls-Royce Type 60 Merlin engine swap. She constantly tinkers with barrier assignments for greater speed, reflecting her roots as a motorcycle and aircraft mechanic. Her primary weapon is a customized Browning Automatic Rifle M1918 featuring bespoke high-capacity magazines, prized for rugged reliability despite limitations.

Trivia notes: Her familiar manifests as a white rabbit (though anime depictions show a hare's tail), referencing photographer Bunny Yeager. Her middle name appears ambiguously as Elwyn or Eldwood, paralleling Chuck Yeager's middle name, Elwood. The motorcycle featured in Season 1, Episode 5 resembles a modified 1924 Indian Big Chief. Shirley shares parallels with Katharine O'Hare—both tall, mechanically adept Liberion Witches who mentor younger squadron members.
