Description
Hyoizaburo, a Crimson Demon, bears the clan's dark hair, red pupils, and chūnibyō traits. His sharp eyes and quiet aura project intimidation. He wears a distinctive old, patched work uniform and a black cape. Married to Yuiyui, he is father to Megumin and Komekko.
Financially irresponsible, Hyoizaburo crafts magic items but fails to support his family. He diverts household funds into his creations, often leaving them without food. His flawed crafting stems from an inability to control the immense magical power he imbues, resulting in defective items with inconvenient side effects. Coupled with his stubborn policy of only selling to those who "appreciate its value," this drives away buyers and perpetuates chronic poverty. To survive, he and Yuiyui frequently travel to peddle his wares at steep discounts, leaving Megumin and Komekko alone for long periods. Even money Megumin sends home is squandered on his workshop, worsening Komekko's malnutrition.
Stoic yet proud of his craft, Hyoizaburo displays sycophantic behavior towards the wealthy but is short-tempered with others. Learning of Kazuma Satō's alleged harassment of Megumin made him stern, but discovering Kazuma's wealth prompted an obsequious shift. He vehemently opposes Yuiyui's attempts to foster a Megumin-Kazuma relationship, though Yuiyui consistently thwarts him using Sleep magic.
During Sylvia's attack on Crimson Demon Village, Darkness evacuated Hyoizaburo. He later contributed his substantial magical power to empower Megumin and Yunyun's combined attack. When Kazuma's party sought a replacement part for an ancient relic, Hyoizaburo recognized it as a "toy" Komekko brought home and directed them to her. He upgraded the party's equipment and coordinated with village vigilantes against monster threats.
Despite occasional patronage from Wiz, his home was destroyed during the Devil King's Daughter's assault.
