Description
Sarah Coppola stands as the sole survivor of a catastrophic laboratory explosion during research on the enigmatic substance Exotic Matter (XM). This event induced complete amnesia, erasing her past and the explosion's details.

A ring recovered from the scene becomes pivotal when touched by psychometric investigator Makoto Midorikawa. His vision—a figure consumed by red light—draws him into a vast conspiracy involving XM.

Sarah possesses innate XM-linked abilities, making her a target. She perceives XM and portals, decodes and transmits messages via XM network glyphs, sees connections between distant portals, and exists as a spiritual entity within the XM Substrate. Her powers evolve to create barriers against Dark XM, disrupt its flow, attack within the Substrate, forcibly realign portals, and eventually reset portals globally. These capabilities position her at the center of plans to influence human minds en masse.

Initially vulnerable and reliant on protectors like Jack Norman, she gradually reveals resilience and agency. She develops instinctive, profound trust in Makoto despite limited early contact. Throughout her journey, she actively questions her circumstances and resists exploitation, refusing alignment with either the Enlightened or Resistance factions. Her inherent kindness and empathy are noted as crucial to designs imposed upon her, yet she ultimately rejects this predetermined role.

Antagonists like Christopher Brandt and the Collaborators covet her abilities. Brandt specifically intends to exploit her glyph-decoding power, merging it with mass-distributed technology to subliminally guide global consciousness, uploading humanity into the XM Substrate under enforced unity. Facing her absolute refusal, they escalate to extreme measures: brainwashing her into compliance or killing her to extract her powers.

In the climax, Sarah unites the global Resistance and Enlightened factions. Manifested as a spiritual entity in the XM Substrate—wings formed from blue and green portal energy—she confronts and defeats Brandt. Following this, she purges the world of spreading Dark XM, an act that seemingly triggers her disappearance. Her final words imply a future reunion with Makoto. Her physical absence, combined with the nature of XM Simulacrums, renders her ultimate fate deliberately ambiguous.
