TV-Series
Description
Sarah Coppola, an Austrian researcher born roughly 25 years before the series' events, holds a PhD from Graz Technology University. She joined Hulong Labs in 2014 and was later assigned to their Tokyo branch. As an innate "High-Order Sensitive," her abilities are significantly amplified by exposure to Exotic Matter (XM), making her valuable to factions seeking to exploit XM.

Her background includes uncovering ethical violations within Hulong's XM research, specifically experiments involving the lethal "Dark XM" variant and projects on human experimentation and mind control. Attempting to broadcast a global warning, she is captured during a laboratory explosion orchestrated by Hulong security head Liu Tien Hua. Scientist Christopher Brandt, harboring ambitions to control humanity via XM, intervenes, revealing her significance before she loses consciousness.

Suffering amnesia after the explosion, she becomes the incident's sole survivor. Hospitalized, she instinctively trusts Makoto Midorikawa, a special investigator with psychometric abilities. Evading pursuit by Brandt's mercenary, Jack Norman, and Hulong agents, her abilities manifest: she perceives invisible XM, detects XM portals and their connections, interprets symbolic glyphs transmitted through portals, and senses the alignment of Control Fields (Enlightened or Resistance).

Her journey involves recovering fragmented memories of her identity, research on Sensitives, and the dangers of Dark XM. She guides Makoto in understanding XM's influence on human cognition and history, explaining the factions' conflict—the Enlightened seek to embrace XM for advancement, while the Resistance views it as a threat to contain.

Recalling Brandt's plan, she remembers his intent to use her abilities to decode glyphs for global mind control via XM-linked goggles. This evolves into an "Assimilation Plot": Brandt aims to upload human consciousness into the XM substrate using Dark XM, with her power as the catalyst. In the climax, she unites global Resistance and Enlightened factions through the Ingress app, creating a unified Control Field to amplify her abilities. She enters the XM substrate, defeats Brandt by disrupting his Dark XM network, and sacrifices herself to purge Dark XM from the world, apparently vanishing.

Her fate remains ambiguous, lacking physical confirmation of death. Her final message to Makoto implies a potential return, and her abilities suggest the possibility of existing within the XM substrate.
