OVA
Description
Haruto Kirishima, a Japanese teenager born October 30th in Hiroshima Prefecture, stands 175 cm tall with brown hair, dark-blue eyes, and a normal build. Initially reserved and shy, he possesses a strong sense of responsibility and consideration for others, often perturbed by more outgoing individuals like his sister Aoi or Yuzuki Eba. Characterized by stubbornness in affection yet demonstrating kindness that attracts diverse personalities, he avoids conflict and prioritizes others' happiness, aligning with Enneagram Type 9 traits. His significant cooking skill developed through family duties, part-time restaurant work, and high school cooking club membership—originally joined due to his crush on Nanami Kanzaki.
Before the series, Haruto lived solely in his rural hometown. At a childhood summer festival, he encountered a lost Yuzuki Eba, comforting her and advising her to seek him if troubled—an encounter he later forgot. Entering middle school, he developed an unspoken affection for classmate Nanami Kanzaki. His life shifted when Yuzuki, the daughter of his father's acquaintance, moved from Tokyo into his home. Initially irritated and viewing her as a stranger, he grew protective as they cohabitated. Yuzuki helped him connect with Nanami, leading to his confession, but Nanami rejected him after recognizing his unconscious prioritization of Yuzuki during conflicts. Yuzuki concurrently confessed her feelings before returning to Tokyo to resolve family estrangements. Haruto pursued her, initiating a long-distance relationship after confessing at a festival.
Miscommunications plagued their relationship; Yuzuki abruptly cut contact via a "Dear John" letter hidden in a gift, citing a new boyfriend. Doubting her explanation, Haruto transferred to a Tokyo high school, moving into his sister's dormitory. There, he befriended Asuka Mishima and Kyosuke Kazama. He discovered Yuzuki dating Kazama, who had a terminal illness and less than a year to live. Yuzuki revealed she dated Kazama to fulfill his dying wish, severing ties with Haruto to avoid burdening him. Haruto openly declared "war" for Yuzuki's affection, earning Kazama's respect. Kazama underwent risky surgery to extend his life for a fair rivalry but died post-operation from stress. After the funeral, Yuzuki and Haruto agreed to part permanently.
During college, Asuka confessed to Haruto, issuing an ultimatum to date or cease friendship. He accepted, and they dated for 1.5 years. After encountering Yuzuki repeatedly, Haruto reexamined his feelings, culminating in a breakup with Asuka and reunion with Yuzuki. He moved into his own Tokyo apartment, where Yuzuki later joined him after fleeing familial opposition. They lived together for three years, navigating friendships, work aspirations, and neighborly bonds like with Miyu Hoshina. Post-graduation, work relocations forced another long-distance relationship; Haruto worked in Kōchi while Yuzuki pursued teaching in Tokyo. The strain caused a breakup, but they reconciled after Haruto returned to Tokyo, marrying shortly after. A decade later, they run "Kirishima Shokudo" restaurant in Hiroshima and have a son, Daiki. Kazama's racing helmet is displayed in the restaurant as a memento.
His surname Kirishima means "paulownia island," while Haruto combines "blue/green" (青) and "big/great" (大), reflecting his grounded yet impactful presence.
