Description
Kōchū Kanshō, known as Shion, serves as a general in the Shoku faction. A skilled archer renowned for exceptional eyesight and marksmanship, she stands as the sole character introduced as a mother, her daughter Riri becoming pivotal to key plot events. In a significant incident, antagonist Enshou takes Riri hostage to force Kōchū to oppose Kazuto's forces. Allies intervene to resolve the crisis: Chou'un sends a message to Kazuto's group, Kan'u distracts Kōchū in a duel, and Chou'un alongside Chouhi rescues Riri. Reunited with her daughter and recognizing Kazuto's virtue, Kōchū surrenders and joins his service.

Her personality blends gentleness with underlying intensity. She speaks softly and politely, functioning as a maternal figure ("team mom") who offers guidance, particularly to younger members. Despite this calm exterior, she possesses a capacity for intimidating rage; when provoked, her tone and aura turn threatening, with her facial appearance potentially shifting demonically in animated depictions. Specific insecurities include an age complex where references to her maturity demoralize or anger her, and a documented fear of thunder.

Kōchū's combat proficiency centers exclusively on archery, making her unsuitable for close-quarters combat. Documented feats include firing multiple arrows simultaneously with high accuracy, striking distant small targets, and rapid successive shots. A notable demonstration involves her shooting at a crow that stole Sonshoukou's hairpin; though the bird flew out of sight, she calculated the shot to startle it into dropping the pin without causing harm—a skill Kan'u deemed superhuman. Beyond physical prowess, she exhibits enhanced eyesight, concentration, and body control. She also possesses high intellect and practical wisdom derived from life experience.

Her relationship dynamics reveal complexity. With Kazuto, she seeks a mature partnership akin to marriage, partly driven by his fatherly affection toward Riri. She actively participates in his romantic life, offering intimate advice to other harem members and ranking as the "number one master of love" according to Chou'un. Privately, she displays flirtatious and lustful behavior with Kazuto, accepting sharing him with others. She frequently indulges in elaborate romantic or sexual fantasies, often requiring Riri to interrupt her reveries. Kōchū maintains a close friendship and drinking partnership with fellow Shoku general Kikyou (Gengan).

Trivia notes contextualize her character: Her portrayal as a mature woman references Huang Zhong from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, typically depicted as an elderly general. She participates in musical activities within spin-off media, playing keyboard in Shin Koihime†Musou LIVE Revolution. Additional personal details include her birthday (September 27) and a third-place ranking in a Shoku faction popularity poll. Her familial background reveals Riri's father is her uncle, making them technically cousins.

Kōchū appears across multiple routes in Shin Koihime†Musou. In the Gi Route, she is sent to assist Batou against Sousou but arrives after Batou's suicide, subsequently persuading Bachou to join Shoku. Her role extends to Shin Koihime†Musou -Kakumei- and related titles.
