TV-Series
Description
Professor Cerise, known as Professor Cerejeira in Brazilian Portuguese, makes his home in Vermilion City, Kanto, directing the Cerise Laboratory dedicated to comprehensive Pokémon research. He is married to Talia, a comic book artist he met in high school; noticing she had stopped drawing, he encouraged her artistic dreams, leading to her career. They have two children, Chloe and Parker.
The Cerise Laboratory occupies a repurposed building, abandoned before and rumored to be haunted by a Gengar. Aware of the haunting, Professor Cerise found it intriguing rather than concerning. The Gengar's activity lessened after failing to intimidate him, though disturbances briefly resumed with new occupants Ash and Goh before Ash captured the Pokémon. The lab officially opened at the series start and features Cerise Park, an enclosed biodome where research fellows' Pokémon reside in habitats mimicking natural environments.
Professor Cerise employs assistants Chrysa and Ren. He recruited Ash Ketchum and Goh as research fellows after being impressed by their Lugia fieldwork report. He provides them with smartphones integrated with Rotom to assign global research missions. He also oversees Pokémon care within Cerise Park, where residents like Raichu manage food and Yamper maintains order.
His personality blends intellectual curiosity with enthusiastic, sometimes overly earnest behavior. Recognized as a genius since childhood, he studies Pokémon with intense passion, occasionally embarrassing Chloe, who reins him in. He maintains professional relationships with other Pokémon professors like Oak and Magnolia. As a parent, he supports Chloe's developing interest in Pokémon training, gifting her a Rotom Phone after she catches Eevee and advising her that effort matters regardless of immediate success. He demonstrates protectiveness, worrying about her traveling alone to Sinnoh, and takes pride in her achievements like a Contest Spectacular performance.
Notable episodes reveal his background and values. Camping with his family, he reunited with childhood friend Grover and recounted rescuing a Clefairy from Beedrill, which later evolved into Clefable. This story illustrates his belief in human-Pokémon bonds, a theme he reinforced advising Chloe about Cresselia. He also participates in community activities, winning a Pokémon Orienteering competition while encouraging participants to pursue their dreams.
His known Pokémon include a Yamper, received from a Galar-region friend, which adores Chloe. He temporarily cared for Piplup eggs that hatched at the lab. A wild Clefairy he aided in youth later evolved into Clefable, reuniting with him years later. He offers starter Pokémon—Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle—to new trainers, though Goh declined, aiming for Mew as his first partner.
Outside research, he enjoys Team Rocket’s radio show under the alias "Mister Are You Lonely Tonight," collecting badges for his participation, reflecting his appreciation for unconventional Pokémon culture.
