Woshis, known as the Shadowlight, is one of Yamato's Eight Pillar Generals. Genetically a clone of the Mikado, Mito, he physically resembles Haku, sharing hair color and facial structure. This clone status creates a complex familial dynamic, positioning him as an older brother figure to Anju and a nephew to Haku.
Raised by Mito as a potential successor, Woshis later seethed with jealousy toward Haku after Mito shifted focus away from him, believing Haku to be humanity's true successor. This fueled intense resentment and a sense of parental rejection, despite Mito and Honoka's genuine care. Childhood isolation marked by loneliness contributed to his psychological struggles and low self-worth. He typically maintained a calm, rational facade while internally battling envy and identity crises, especially after discovering his clone status, which triggered a significant mental breakdown.
Within the events of Mask of Truth, Woshis served as the primary antagonist. He orchestrated the assassination of the Yamato Emperor, poisoned Anju, and framed Oshtor to incite civil war. Upon Anju's return, he revealed his identity and motivations, seeking to use the master key to revive humanity and eradicate demi-humans. However, his clone status rendered him unauthorized for this action. Acquiring a concealed Akuruka mask, he fought a final confrontation with Haku. The battle concluded with Haku's self-sacrifice due to Akuruka power overuse, thwarting Woshis's plans.
Alternate versions appear in Lost Frag. Surikuri, an earlier iteration, served as chief priest of Karaza before becoming a Marebito with undisclosed schemes. A future counterpart exists in an alternate Yamato timeline, where he serves as an advisor to the emperor and pursues writing, avoiding the psychological collapse of the main timeline due to Haku's earlier intervention altering his path. Here, he utilizes AI holograms to manage duties; these holograms retain personality traits reminiscent of his unstable main-timeline self.
His abilities included wielding the First Akuruka mask, hidden by the Mikado for its destructive potential. In an alternate timeline, he employed a "Light Saber," a durable, non-lethal weapon modeled after ancient entertainment. When modified with high-powered batteries, it became dangerous and featured an assistive AI system enhancing combat maneuverability.
Key relationships defined his character. His bond with Mito was strained by perceived abandonment, while hatred for Haku stemmed from envy over Mito's recognition. Though technically Anju's older brother, interactions were minimal, and he belittled her clone status during his betrayal. A positive connection existed with Rulutieh, who admired his BL novels. In the alternate future timeline, his relationship with Emperor Haku evolved into a supportive, sibling-like dynamic featuring mutual teasing and shared leisure. He also served as a strict art instructor and caring figure to Tiseriri, his niece in that timeline.
Woshis undertook genetic modifications to slow aging, maintaining a consistent appearance across significant periods. His future counterpart acknowledged his unsuitability for rulership, observing timelines where his ascension led to prolonged political instability in Yamato.
