TV-Series
Description
Haruyoshi Shimomura attends Kasaba University as a friend and classmate of Seigi Nakata. His name signifies "clear weather" and "good, virtuous, respectable," and he is the youngest of three sons. He displays a laidback and mature personality, acting as a voice of reason and supportive confidant compared to Seigi's other friends. He shows understanding for Seigi's unconventional choices, like working at Richard's jewelry shop, yet also exhibits an impulsive streak, notably when deciding to abruptly leave college to pursue Spanish flamenco guitar music in Spain. He maintains affection for his friends and openness to forming cross-cultural bonds, such as his friendship with Henry Claremont.

His relationship with Seigi is one of his closest and most enduring connections from their university days, remaining in contact years after graduation. He provides practical support, assisting Seigi with classwork during Richard's disappearance and influencing Seigi's career decisions by encouraging him to embrace his role as Richard's secretary.

After Seigi arranges online Japanese tutoring, Haruyoshi develops a significant friendship with Henry Claremont. They bond over a shared passion for music, though Henry initially uses the alias "Enrique Wabisabi" to conceal his noble background. When Henry's true identity is revealed during an in-person meeting, Haruyoshi reacts with acceptance and warmth, hugging him despite the deception. Their friendship continues, though language barriers occasionally complicate communication.

In the anime adaptation, his role incorporates elements from other college friends. Early appearances include encouraging Seigi to pursue romantic feelings for Shouko Tanimoto and later enlisting Seigi's help to resolve a scam involving a club member. He is also present during Seigi's confrontation with his biological father in the final episode.

The novels depict his involvement starting in the Amethyst case of Volume 1, where he reassures Seigi about Richard's striking appearance during a social outing. His decision to leave university for music occurs in Volume 5, inspired by Seigi's non-traditional career path. Later, during the second story arc, his Japanese tutoring sessions with Henry strengthen their musical connection. He also monitors Jeffrey Claremont's social media activity, noting unusual comments about Seigi.
