Description
Hokuto Ijūin originates from a musically inclined family—his father a violinist, his mother a piano instructor, and his sister a flute student. He demonstrated early piano talent until a high school tendon injury halted his professional performance ambitions, though he retained partial ability, notably playing "Der Flohwalzer" at accelerated speed. During college, he joined the tennis club, partly drawn by the girls' uniforms, then pursued modeling before idol scouting; reports indicate limited enjoyment of modeling for unspecified reasons.
Initially in 961 Production's Jupiter unit with Shouta Mitarai and Touma Amagase, he emphasized visual appeal while being the group's least skilled dancer. His early persona featured overt flirtation targeting only female fans, using "Ciao☆" as a signature greeting and addressing supporters as "Angel-chans." He unsuccessfully pursued fellow idols Makoto Kikuchi and Azusa Miura. Despite a seemingly aloof exterior, he exhibited maturity and intelligence, winning a magazine poll as the celebrity readers' preferred older brother. He maintained respect toward women, evidenced by losing a fighting game to Shouta due to the latter's use of a female character.
Disillusioned by 961 Production's unethical methods, Jupiter defected, operated independently, then joined 315 Production. As the oldest and most experienced member, Ijūin assumed greater responsibility, initiating talks with 315 Pro president Takashi Saitou and driving the group's collective agency transition. At 315 Production, his persona evolved: he reduced overt flirtation, inclusively addressed male fans as "Angel-kuns," and expressed appreciation for beauty across genders. His leadership persisted within Jupiter, balancing group dynamics and supporting peers—like attending S.E.M's debut, briefly acknowledging a past connection with member Rui Maita.
His piano background occasionally resurfaces, reflecting a journey from a narrowly focused idol image to a versatile, grounded performer who prioritizes fan connections and artistic integrity.
