Description
Luke fon Fabre, only son of Duke Crimson Herzog fon Fabre and Duchess Susanne fon Fabre, is nephew to King Ingobert VI of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. Kidnapped by the Malkuth Empire at age ten, he returned with complete amnesia of his prior life. Royal orders confined him to the Fabre manor in Baticul for seven years, fostering a spoiled, selfish, and impatient personality alongside minimal world knowledge. Recurring headaches brought unexplained voices, and his sole hobby became swordsmanship, trained by mentor Van Grants. His closest companions were cousin Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear and friend Guy Cecil.
His confinement shattered when Tear Grants infiltrated to assassinate Van. Luke intervened, triggering an isofon-induced hyperresonance that flung him and Tear to Malkuth's Tataroo Valley. Thrust into the wider world, his arrogance and ignorance persisted. Traveling with Tear, he encountered Malkuth Colonel Jade Curtiss, Fon Master Guardian Anise Tatlin, and Fon Master Ion, eventually agreeing to help prevent war between Kimlasca and Malkuth. An early confrontation forced him to unwillingly kill an enemy soldier, causing profound shock and reluctance to wield his sword until Tear was injured protecting him.
Trusting Van, Luke used hyperresonance to "save" Akzeriuth, only to be tricked into destroying its supporting Sephiroth. The town collapsed into the toxic Qliphoth, killing its inhabitants. His party abandoned him due to his refusal to accept blame and persistent selfishness, leaving only cheagle companion Mieu. He soon encountered God-General Asch and learned the truth: he was not the original Luke but a seven-year-old replica created by Van through Fomicry. Asch was the true Luke, kidnapped years earlier to overturn the prophecy known as the Score.
This revelation plunged Luke into despair, but witnessing Guy's loyalty and Tear's counsel motivated his transformation. He cut his long red hair with Tear's knife, symbolizing his resolve to change and atone. He dedicated himself to preventing further disasters, discovering he could manipulate Sephiroth Passage Rings via hyperresonance to safely lower segments of the Outer Lands. One month later, he reunited with his party to address resurgent miasma and wandering replicas. Learning that absorbing the world's miasma required sacrificing 10,000 replicas and a Seventh Fonist, Luke volunteered, believing his existence denied Asch's rightful life. At the Tower of Rem, he initiated an amplified hyperresonance but realized too late his wish to live. Asch intervened, and though both survived the energy field, the miasma and replicas vanished.
Van's plan to destroy the world using replica city Eldrant continued. Luke confronted Asch again at the Tower of Rem over who should sacrifice themselves using the Key of Lorelei. Luke prevailed and took the Key, but during the attempt, the Jewel of Lorelei emerged from his chest—revealed sealed within him during a prior battle with Van. Using the Jewel and Key, he cleared the miasma but afterward began experiencing physical disintegration as his Seventh Fonons separated. Medical analysis in Belkend confirmed this process would be fatal.
Luke proceeded to Eldrant to confront Van, falling into a trap where he encountered Asch. To escape, one had to hold open a door via hyperresonance while the other advanced. Luke volunteered to stay, prompting Asch to challenge him to a duel to decide who would face Van. Victorious, Luke advanced while Asch held the door, only for Asch to be killed by Oracle Knight replicas. With his dying breath, Asch transferred his remaining power to Luke, enabling Second Order hyperresonance. Luke used this power to defeat Van and free the spirit Lorelei. Both Luke and Asch's corpse were engulfed in light during Eldrant's destruction.
Three years later, Luke was presumed dead. On the night of his 20th birthday—his coming-of-age ceremony—he reappeared in Baticul, reuniting with his friends and stating he had a promise to keep with Tear. The exact nature of his survival or whether he embodies traits of both Luke and Asch remains ambiguous.
