Description
Chibiusa Tsukino, also known by her sailor guardian identity Sailor Chibi Moon, is the crown princess of Earth in the 30th century from the utopia of Crystal Tokyo. She is the daughter of Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion, who are the future versions of Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba. Despite being chronologically over 900 years old, she has the physical appearance and mental capacity of a young child due to the influence of the Silver Crystal, which paused her aging process until she awakened her powers as a Sailor Guardian. Her formal name is Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity, but she is universally given the nickname "Chibiusa", which translates to "little rabbit", both to differentiate her from her mother and as a reference to her pink hair styled into rabbit ear-shaped odango buns.

In terms of personality, Chibiusa is sweet but also hot-headed and prone to being misunderstood. She shares a complicated but deeply loving dynamic with her mother Chibiusa often pretends to be cold or critical toward Usagi, frequently arguing with her and competing for the attention of Mamoru, but in truth she loves her mother more than anyone else. She forms a very strong bond with her father as well, frequently seeking his warmth and comfort. Despite her outward bravado, she retains several childhood fears, including a fear of thunderstorms, needles, and ghosts, and she dislikes being left alone at home. Chibiusa is an artistic child with a passion for drawing, and she enjoys collecting rabbit-themed items.

Chibiusa's primary motivation throughout her journey is to protect her family and her future kingdom. She initially travels back in time to the 20th century seeking the help of the Sailor Guardians after the Black Moon Clan attacks Crystal Tokyo and petrifies her mother. Her mother later sends her back in time for training, to gain experience, and to form important friendships that will help her grow into her role as a future leader. Her role in the story of Sailor Moon Cosmos sees her continuing to fight as a Sailor Guardian in training, working alongside her mother and the other Sailor Senshi. The film adapts the final arc of the manga, where the Sailor Guardians face the galactic tyrant Sailor Galaxia, who seeks to harvest Sailor Crystals from across the galaxy. In this conflict, Chibiusa fights to protect Earth alongside a mysterious toddler named Chibi Chibi, who is later revealed to hold a powerful secret.

Key relationships define much of Chibiusa's development. Her relationship with her past self's parents is initially strained as she struggles to reconcile their younger, less mature personalities with the regal monarchs she knows from the future. Over time, their bond shifts from rivalry to a deep mutual devotion, blending sisterly teasing with maternal and filial love. Her guardians and closest allies are the Sailor Quartet and Sailor Saturn, and she forms a particularly strong friendship with Hotaru Tomoe, who is Sailor Saturn. She also has a deep connection with Sailor Pluto, the guardian of the Space-Time Door, who gives her the critical Space-Time Key that allows her to travel between eras. Her constant companion is Luna P, a magical, ball-shaped device that can transform into various objects on command, and she later befriends Diana, a grey kitten who is the daughter of the moon cats Luna and Artemis.

Chibiusa undergoes significant development throughout the series. A major turning point occurs during the conflict with the Black Moon Clan, where the villain Wiseman manipulates her loneliness and insecurities to transform her into an aged, brainwashed antagonist named Black Lady. Her redemption and the official awakening of her Sailor Guardian powers happen during the battle against Death Phantom, an event that solidifies her courage and resolve. This event marks her transition from a helpless child seeking help to an active protector. In the Sailor Moon Cosmos film, she continues to mature, fighting with her team against Sailor Galaxia and playing a part in the final battle at the Galaxy Cauldron, the birthplace of all Sailor Crystals.

As Sailor Chibi Moon, her notable abilities include several signature attacks. Using the Pink Moon Stick, she can perform the Pink Sugar Heart Attack, which sends pink heart-shaped beams at her enemies, although this is considered a relatively weak "training" attack that is often more annoying than powerful. With the Crystal Carillon, she can perform Twinkle Yell to summon Pegasus for aid or gather energy. She also has the ability to channel a powerful column of energy from the crescent moon symbol on her forehead, which typically activates when she is in distress. She transforms using various phrases, such as "Moon Prism Power, Make Up" with the Prism Heart Compact, and later "Moon Crisis, Make Up" and "Pink Moon Crystal Power, Make Up" as she gains more power and achieves new forms like Super Sailor Chibi Moon and Eternal Sailor Chibi Moon.
