Queen Nehelenia, originally named Queen Helenia, ruled a peaceful kingdom where her subjects adored her beauty. Her obsession with eternal youth ignited when her mirror revealed her future as an old woman. To preserve her appearance, she devoured her subjects' dream mirrors, transforming them into Lemures; this act birthed Zirconia from her fears. Envious of the Moon Kingdom's prosperity, she sought the Golden Crystal from Elysion's guardian, Helios. Queen Serenity sealed her inside a dark mirror during the Silver Millennium.
In the anime, she reemerged during a solar eclipse, commanding the Dead Moon Circus from within her mirror. She directed Zirconia and the Amazoness Quartet to locate Pegasus, who hid within Chibiusa's dreams, aiming to steal the Golden Crystal. After capturing Helios and Chibiusa, she extracted the crystal, shattered her mirror prison, and confronted the Sailor Guardians. Defeated by Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon's combined power, she reverted to a withered form and resealed herself. Sailor Galaxia later freed her during the Sailor Stars arc; Nehelenia shattered her own dream mirror, infecting Earth with its shards and kidnapping Mamoru. After tormenting the Sailor Guardians, Sailor Moon's forgiveness allowed her to restart life as a child in a new timeline.
In the manga and *Sailor Moon Eternal*, Nehelenia appeared uninvited at Princess Serenity's birth celebration. Declaring herself the Moon's true ruler, she was sealed into a mirror by Queen Serenity, prompting her to curse the princess and foretell the Silver Millennium's fall. Freed during an eclipse, she brainwashed the future Sailor Quartet into the Amazoness Quartet and corrupted Elysion. She sought the Golden Crystal, later revealed to reside within Mamoru, and the Silver Crystal. Defeated by Eternal Sailor Moon's unified attack, she withered into an aged form and vanished as her mirror shattered. She was later revealed as an incarnation of Chaos.
Nehelenia possessed long, flowing dark blue/black hair, often styled in buns and ponytails, pointed ears, and light blue slit-pupiled eyes. She wore ornate dresses with spiderweb-patterned cloaks, gold jewelry, and a crescent-adorned crown. Her true form manifested as a decrepit crone when her mirror broke or when defeated.
Her abilities included dream manipulation, curses, and black magic. She could extract dream mirrors, corrupt individuals, and unleash nightmare energy. Her shattered mirror shards could control victims. Thematically, she embodied vanity and decay, drawing parallels to figures like Snow White's Evil Queen and Maleficent.
