Prince Shijaku, originally named Barkas, was one of three princes of Oukoku alongside older brother Dragonia and younger brother Hata. His small Chidannesko (a forehead antenna colloquially called "Chinko," meaning penis) rendered him an unfavorable heir, prompting his departure from Oukoku after their father's death to avoid succession conflict. Prince Hata subsequently refused the kingship in Shijaku's absence, holding out for their joint rule as "Dragon King" with Dragonia.
Shijaku became a warrior and ascended to admiral in an unspecified nation, renowned for combat prowess and leadership. During service, he encountered Enshou, prince of the militant planet Burei. Though rivals, mutual respect formed between them. After Enshou's wife and unborn child perished in an Altana Gate explosion orchestrated by the Tendoshu, Shijaku allied with Enshou to co-found the Altana Liberation Army, aiming to free oppressed planets from Tendoshu control.
Prioritizing his planet's welfare, Shijaku displayed reason and responsibility—traits contrasting his brothers' incompetence. He advocated for honorable conflict, refusing to exploit Enshou's tragedy for tactical advantage. During the Silver Soul Arc, he negotiated a temporary ceasefire with Earth's Shogun Hitotsubashi Nobu Nobu after both accidentally defecated during tense talks, bonding through shared humiliation.
When Utsuro provoked the Liberation Army to attack Earth, Shijaku recognized the manipulation and urged Enshou to stand down. Enshou imprisoned him for this dissent, revealing the near-deceased Tendoshu as scapegoats to sustain the army's wrath. Jailed alongside Nobu Nobu and Sakamoto Tatsuma, Shijaku learned of Katsura Kotarou's captivity on Prince Hata's ship. He revealed his identity as Barkas to halt his retainer Dan's attack, though this was initially ignored due to Dragonia's simultaneous reappearance. Dragonia (formerly Katsura's pet Elizabeth) then declared Shijaku and Hata Oukoku's rightful rulers while renouncing his own claim to remain on Earth.
Shijaku later escaped, allying with Sakamoto's forces to raid Enshou's mothership and oppose the invasion. He fought alongside Earth's resistance against Enshou's faction and Utsuro, solidifying his role as a unifying figure.
In combat, he wielded a spear and wore a distinctive purple cape. His abilities included superhuman strength, speed, and durability, with skills rivaling Enshou's. A bandana concealed his Chidannesko, symbolizing his exiled past.
Relationships defined his arc: he revered Dragonia, tolerated Hata's ineptitude, and balanced rivalry with camaraderie towards Enshou. His commitment to justice over vengeance cemented his shift from Liberation Army admiral to Earth's ally.
