Description
Ensign Jona Bashta, aged 25, serves in the Earth Federation Forces aboard the Clop-class cruiser Damascus as part of the Shezarr unit during Operation Phoenix Hunt. His military record shows no notable achievements or infractions before this assignment.
Born prior to the One Year War, Jona lost both parents during that conflict under circumstances rendered unclear by destroyed records. He spent his childhood in an Australian foster care facility with Rita Bernal and Michele Luio. When Operation British’s colony drop threatened, Rita’s precognition enabled them to evacuate an entire town, earning the trio the "Miracle Children" designation. This event cemented their profound connection, marked by a shared three-part necklace.
Post-evacuation, the group entered a Titans-run Newtype research facility. After Michele identified Rita as the true Newtype, Michele was adopted by Luio & Co., while Jona stayed until the facility shut down at the Gryps War’s conclusion. He later purged records of his facility involvement. Official documents state his adoption by a North American family, enrollment in an Earth Federation Space Force academy at 18, graduation at 22, and ensign commission.
Reunited with Michele through her Luio & Co. ties, Jona piloted the RX-9 Narrative Gundam in Operation Phoenix Hunt. This mobile suit incorporated a Core Block System for Core Fighter transformation and Psycho-Frame technology derived from the Unicorn Gundam series. During operations, he wore a Psycho-Suit integrated with Psycho-Frame material.
Jona’s initial mission targeted the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex, piloted by Rita Bernal, who had vanished with the unit two years earlier. His combat role advanced through equipment phases: capture-focused A-Packs, balanced B-Packs, and combat-optimized C-Packs. Psychologically, he grappled with guilt over Rita’s fate and clashed with Michele over her manipulation of the Phenex hunt.
In the final battle against Zoltan Akkanen’s NZ-999 II Neo Zeong, Jona witnessed Michele’s sacrifice to shield his damaged Narrative Gundam. He then boarded the Phenex, awakening as a Newtype and activating its NT-D System. Synchronizing with Rita and Michele’s consciousnesses, he channeled their collective will to neutralize the II Neo Zeong’s weaponry and prevent a helium-3 detonation.
His bond with Rita centered on shared trauma and her longing for freedom from human constraints, symbolized by her avian aspirations. With Michele, their dynamic shifted from interdependence to conflict over her Phenex manipulations, resolving through her sacrificial redemption. His commanding officer, Iago Haakana, initially underestimated his skills but later acknowledged his piloting growth during decisive engagements.
The Narrative Gundam’s design paralleled Jona’s arc: its base form’s exposed frame reflected his vulnerability, while the C-Packs’ sleek profile signaled his move toward autonomy. Discarding the Psycho-Suit at the climax embodied his rejection of externally defined roles.
