Description
Toren works as a scientist at Fula City's Pokémon Research Pavilion, marked by extreme shyness and social anxiety that cause him to avoid eye contact, become flustered in conversation, and struggle with interactions and public speaking. Despite this, he possesses deep care for Pokémon and significant scientific knowledge. His duties include developing solutions like an antidote for toxic Effect Spore gas. When spilled Smeargle ink reveals an invisible trail leading to the theft of Fula City's eternal flame, it becomes a critical clue. Facing the Effect Spore crisis, Toren initially plans a Natural Cure antidote. After the lab's supply burns, he improvises a replacement elixir from Lum Berries and devises a method to disperse it using the abandoned power plant's turbines.
Toren owns several Pokémon: a Chansey providing constant emotional support, especially during stress; a Smeargle whose ink aids the investigation; a Vileplume; and a Lurantis. During the city's emergencies, he collaborates with others. He assists Callahan by lending his Staryu for the Pokémon Catch Race in exchange for presentation help. When Callahan fails to appear, Toren attempts the presentation alone and accidentally exposes Callahan's deception. Later, at the power plant, he entrusts Callahan with dispersing the Lum Berry antidote while coordinating with Harriet and other Pokémon to activate the turbines. He also recalls the stadium's sprinkler system, enabling Ash and Electric-type Pokémon to activate it during the fire.
These events catalyze Toren's gradual development. He progresses from near-paralyzing nervousness to finding his voice among peers, particularly when directing fellow scientists during the antidote production. While his core compassion for Pokémon remains, he concludes with increased confidence and assertiveness.
