Description
Misuzu, a horse daiyokai of immense power, towers exceptionally even among giant yokai. His form features black skin and a horse-like head, draped in a lavender kimono. Two golden rings pierce his right ear, while three small bells hang from his left. His right hand manifests as a bull hoof, starkly contrasting his left human-like hand, which bears two golden bangles.
He carries himself with condescension, habitually looking down on weaker yokai and humans, and speaks with deceptive undertones and hidden agendas. Yet he fiercely protects followers and allies, extending unwavering loyalty to friends like Takashi Natsume and readily intervening in their conflicts.
Decades ago, Reiko Natsume defeated him and inscribed his name in the Book of Friends, though she never summoned him before her death. Learning her grandson intended to return names, Misuzu sought Takashi. Upon meeting, he noted Takashi’s resemblance to Reiko and impulsively attacked a human he misjudged as threatening Natsume. Takashi halted him by invoking the book’s power, freezing him momentarily.
His history with Reiko fuels a complex dynamic, while a competitive rivalry with the yokai Sasame sparks recurring battles for dominance. With Takashi Natsume, he shifts from skepticism to grudging respect, serving him as Reiko’s heir. He acknowledges fellow daiyokai Madara’s strength but distrusts his intentions toward Natsume, bluntly mocking him as an "inert butterball." He shares a casual friendship with Chobihige, often drinking together. As part of the "Dog’s Circle," he collaborates with powerful yokai, aiding Natsume during Nyanko-sensei’s magical fragmentation in "Ephemeral Bond."
Misuzu commands flight, carrying multiple passengers, and shapeshifts into human form. His "Demonic Bite" enables him to swallow large spirits whole.
