Chōminpuku, also known as Zhāng Míngfú, hails from Song China. He once worked as a merchant in Hakozaki, boasting of being its wealthiest man with a hidden treasure. This diminutive elderly exile displays black hair styled in a topknot, black eyes, and a goatee; his stature remains notably short, even compared to child characters. Transported to Tsushima Island, he exists as a token minority among the exiles and residents. Lacking combat skills or the physical strength for labor due to his age, fellow exiles and Tsushima's defenders consider him a burden. When the Mongols invade, his merchant resourcefulness secures a boat for escape to mainland Japan. However, he sails directly into the Mongol navy. Unlike others who return or find definitive conclusions, his fate remains unresolved; capture or death is implied but unconfirmed, resulting in an ambiguous disappearance from the narrative.
