Gou Asahi possesses latent psychic potential that manifests as pyrokinetic abilities. He has blond hair cropped short, large black eyes often half-lidded, and a small, slender nose. His typical outfit consists of a light blue hoodie decorated with flame images, dark blue trousers, light blue socks, and white penny loafers.

Originally average, he was discovered by Kenji Mitsuura and brought to the Awakening Lab, where his pyrokinetic powers were awakened. He chooses to remain there to train. During the Big Cleanup Arc, he is introduced alongside fellow Awakening Lab espers Takeshi Hoshino, Rei Kurosaki, and the Shiratori twins to Ritsu Kageyama. At this time, his abilities are minimal, generating only brief sparks of flame.

In the 7th Division Arc, Gou and the other Awakening Lab espers are kidnapped by the organization Claw for brainwashing and intended military use. They escape thanks to the intervention of Ritsu Kageyama and Arataka Reigen. Teruki Hanazawa subsequently arrives at the Awakening Lab to train Gou and the others, culminating in improved pyrokinetic control.

During the ???% Arc, Gou witnesses the destructive actions of ???% in the city alongside other Awakening Lab members. By the series epilogue, he attends Arataka Reigen's birthday party, maintaining his connection to the main group.

His primary ability is pyrokinesis, which remains underdeveloped initially. After training with Teruki Hanazawa, he achieves enough control to collaborate with Takeshi Hoshino, creating a temporary fiery wall. Despite this progress, his powers are still relatively weak compared to other espers.
