TV-Series
Description
Ottarl, also commonly rendered Ottar, is the captain of the Freya Familia and the strongest adventurer in Orario at the time the story takes place. He is a Boaz, a boar-eared humanoid race, with a tall and heavily muscular build, dark skin, rust-colored hair and eyes, and a pair of boar ears. His background begins in hardship, as he was abandoned as a child without even knowing his own name. The goddess Freya found him dying in an alley, told him he was beautiful, and took him into her familia, giving him the name he carries and the emotional and material support that shaped his entire life. After receiving his falna, he waited a year before undergoing the brutal daily training in Folkvangr, where he was frequently pushed to the brink of death by earlier familia members. He reached Level 2 within a year, became vice-captain at seventeen while still a Level 5, reached Level 6 soon after, and eventually became captain during Orario's Dark Age once all the members who had joined before him were gone. Seven years before the main events of the series, he reached Level 7 after defeating Zald during the Great Feud. He also half-killed Balor, the Monster Rex of the 49th floor, and later defeated a second Balor on his own.

His personality is quiet, stoic, and extremely blunt. From childhood he rarely showed emotion, neither crying nor laughing, and he remains poor at interacting with others. His expression usually stays the same whether he feels defeated, pressured, or sad, though his boar ears will droop or bend when he experiences such emotions. His most defining trait is his devotion to Freya. He is absolutely loyal to her and follows her orders, but he is not blindly obedient and has argued against her wishes when he believes her plans could have harmful consequences, or acted on his own when he thinks it serves her best. He feels no jealousy toward Freya's interest in Bell Cranel and would not mind if she stopped loving him entirely, yet he becomes enraged if anyone insults her. His gratitude to Freya is his first and greatest motivation for becoming stronger, since he saw himself as unable to offer her anything other than his strength.

His drive for power was also shaped by repeated defeats. As one of the few still-active adventurers who clashed with the Zeus and Hera Familias, he lost countless times but never held grudges, instead blaming his own weakness. Having grown up alongside the Level 8 and Level 9 warriors of those familias, he remains dissatisfied with his own power and considers himself still inexperienced despite being far stronger than any other adventurer of the current generation. He is humble and never boasts about his abilities, and he openly acknowledges his shortcomings, including his lack of skill as a leader and his admiration for Hedin's intelligence. At the same time, he does not belittle himself and will admit when he is stronger than someone else. He holds high standards for others and is a harsh trainer, having pushed Ais Wallenstein to her limits for a week during their training and having strengthened a Minotaur specifically to test whether Bell was worthy of Freya's attention. He believes adventurers only grow by facing danger, he values keeping one's word, and he is highly perceptive in combat, able to read an opponent's thoughts and resolve through the will they express with their weapons.

In the events of the fifth season, which covers the Goddess Festival and the subsequent Faction War, Ottarl serves as the central enforcer of Freya's plans. He participates in the Freya Familia's move to take Bell, and during the invasion of Hestia Familia he defeats both Bell and Ryuu. In the Faction War, he overpowers the combined assault of Bell, Ryuu, and Mia Grand without breaking through his defense, and after activating his beastification he defeats all three of them along with Hedin in a matter of moments. Even after his opponents receive level boosts, he continues fighting and is ultimately defeated only after a prolonged and exhausting battle, leaving his adversaries drained while he himself insists he needs only five minutes to recover and return to combat.

His key relationships are defined by loyalty and respect. Freya is everything to him, and his devotion to her governs his actions. He respects strong opponents and those who show real resolve, praising Bell every time the younger adventurer overcomes a challenge and recognizing Ais' tenacity. He trusts and is trusted by influential figures outside his own familia, such as Finn, and he treats Leon as his equal. His notable abilities stem from his status as a Level 7 adventurer, giving him monumental strength, speed, agility, reflexes, durability, and endurance far beyond any Level 6 or lower. He can cut powerful monsters cleanly in half, generate earthquakes with a single attack, block and counter attacks from multiple first-class adventurers at once, and fight for days without meaningful rest. His skill Stortus Ottar allows him to beastify, massively increasing his combat power at the cost of draining his stamina and mind, and his magic Hildis Vini is a powerful attack he is willing to use whenever necessary. Because of his strength, experience, and relentless determination to surpass his limits, he is respected by gods and mortals alike and carries the title of the strongest adventurer in Orario.
