TV-Series
Description
Tōma Tsukinami, a frequently neglected junior high student due to his parents' disease research, developed a cold, aloof demeanor and deep loneliness from prolonged isolation and bullying. This convinced him no one cared, causing him to misinterpret genuine connection attempts, like Natsume Amano's childhood visits.
Exploiting this vulnerability, the Onimaro manipulated Tōma into serving as an antagonist. He wielded the Kigan Gear to spread the Onimaro virus, mutating humans into violent Kaodeka Oni. During this phase, he displayed unsettling behavior, including unnerving smiles under Onimaro influence, and was implicated in fatalities, contributing to widespread chaos. His antagonism ended with defeat by Natsume and her allies.
Kitaro later purified the darkness within Tōma, revealing others did care. The Kigan Gear transformed into the Yo-kai Watch Ogre, enabling possession by and transformation into one of four Genma Yo-kai (each altering his eye color). This power allowed him to separate Onimaro from hosts and fight supernatural threats. He joined Natsume and Akinori Arihoshi, forming a Yo-kai detective agency.
Tōma proved pivotal in defeating the Oni King Rasen. Impaled through the heart by the Oni King's crystallized blood during the battle, he beheaded Rasen in a final act of defiance. He died briefly, expressing gratitude for his friendships and redemption, before three Onimaro attached to him sacrificed their lives to resurrect him.
In subsequent events, Tōma continued with the detective agency. His personality evolved into a calmer, more humble, yet still reserved and levelheaded demeanor, often acting as a stabilizing force. He occasionally revealed unexpected traits, like enthusiasm for a popular trading card game, and maintained obliviousness to romantic advances. Despite his kinder nature, he occasionally engaged in lethal combat with hostile Yo-kai.
Tōma harbored a profound fear of loneliness stemming from childhood neglect, manifesting in traumatic illusions of deceased friends. He was later revealed as the reincarnation of an ancient Oni warrior, a connection shared with other agency members linked to significant Yo-kai legacies. His combat relied solely on his transformation ability, lacking alternative methods.
