Description
Faris Nyannyan, legally Rumiho Akiha, hails from a wealthy family owning extensive Akihabara properties, including the district's namesake. At age eight, a traumatic argument over her father missing her birthday culminated in her angrily wishing him dead; he subsequently perished in a plane crash while attempting an early return, leaving her plagued by crushing guilt. This tragedy later drove her to send a D-Mail altering the past, fabricating a kidnapping that forced her father onto a bullet train instead of the doomed flight. This successful change erased her maid café, May Queen NyanNyan, and Akihabara's otaku-centric identity from that timeline.
Her "Faris Nyannyan" persona functions as both her professional identity at the café and a shield against vulnerability. She consistently appends "nya" to her speech, adopts exaggerated cat-like mannerisms, and wears cat-ear accessories to amplify "moe" appeal. This contrasts sharply with her true self, Rumiho Akiha, who demonstrates keen perceptiveness, emotional depth, and a loneliness born from her mother's frequent absences and few close bonds. She wields "Cheshire Break," an observational skill enabling her to detect lies and discern true intentions through subtle cues like eye movements or facial expressions. Despite her affluent background, she actively conceals it to avoid altered treatment, confiding only in her butler, Kuroki, and the Future Gadget Lab members.
Physically, she is notably short (143 cm) with pink hair usually in twin braids or pigtails, pink eyes, and a slim build. Her primary outfit is an intricate maid uniform complete with headdress, apron, ribbons, black leggings, and shoes. Outside work, she wears an amber dress and a black tiara.
As Lab Member 007 within the Future Gadget Lab, she shares a unique dynamic with Rintaro Okabe, engaging his "Hououin Kyouma" persona earnestly and co-creating elaborate role-playing scenarios. Her trust in the lab allows her to reveal her true self, Rumiho. However, she occasionally exhibits manipulative tendencies, exemplified by tricking Okabe into helping her win a RaiNet AccessBattlers tournament.
Her character development is depicted in the spin-off *Linear Bounded Phenogram*, particularly Nae Tennouji's route. Set years after events leading toward a dystopian future, Rumiho exhibits significant emotional growth. She moves past her fear of deception, accepting that white lies and indirect communication can be necessary for healthy relationships. This maturity surfaces in advice to Nae, emphasizing that emotional scars can heal and foster growth, and that protecting others sometimes justifies withholding harsh truths.
In *Steins;Gate 0*, she appears in a supporting role. This includes providing refuge for Maho Hiyajo after a kidnapping attempt during the "Twin Automata" route and participating in lab gatherings like the New Year shrine visit and Christmas Eve party detailed in the "X-day Protocol" chapter.
