TV-Series
Description
Yūgo Tennōji, alias Mr. Braun, operates a CRT television repair shop in Akihabara and functions as landlord for Rintaro Okabe's Future Gadget Laboratory. An orphan born in Paris, he survived in the sewers before SERN recruited him following his discovery of a gellified human. The organization financed his escape from poverty, relocating him to Akihabara. There, he befriended Suzu Hashida and Tsuzuri Imamiya, marrying Tsuzuri and fathering daughter Nae Tennōji. SERN gellified Tsuzuri during her second pregnancy in 2001 to enforce his continued loyalty.
As SERN Rounder handler "FB"—a pseudonym referencing CRT inventor Ferdinand Braun—he psychologically manipulates recruits like Moeka Kiryū by assuming identities fulfilling their emotional needs. His gruff, intimidating exterior fuels frequent clashes with Okabe over rent and experiments. Despite this, he exhibits underlying concern for the lab members and hires Suzuha Amane due to their shared passion for CRT technology. Protecting Nae remains his core motivation, driving his compliance with SERN.
When Okabe and Moeka expose him as FB, he commits suicide to avoid dishonoring Suzu Hashida's memory and preempt SERN's elimination of him as a liability. The anime adaptation depicts him fatally shooting Moeka before killing himself at a construction site to spare Nae the sight.
In *Steins;Gate 0*'s beta worldline, he persists as a Rounder but allies with Okabe to shield Nae from unidentified threats. He shelters Kagari Shiina and Suzuha by employing them at his shop, leveraging interrogation skills to help Okabe identify pursuers. Altered time travel events prevent Suzu Hashida's influence here, rendering this iteration more ruthless and less redeemable.
His physical presentation remains uniform across timelines: a muscular, bald, and bearded man standing 187 cm tall, typically clad in a yellow shirt and green "I LOVE CRT" apron. Within the Steins Gate worldline, he severs ties with SERN and employs Moeka part-time at his shop.
