Description
Shōhei Shirai is a teenage boy, approximately 16-17 years old, with brown hair and brown eyes. A leg injury sustained during middle school soccer club activities forced him to quit the sport, despite retaining limited mobility, an event that defined his adolescence.

He attended middle school with Chinatsu Morikawa, developing feelings for her after she encouraged his soccer pursuits. He confessed twice, receiving rejections both times; their shared history forms a core aspect of his background.

As a Selector in the Lostorage incited WIXOSS events, he possessed an LRIG named Dona, who addressed him affectionately as "Shou-chan." Shohei vehemently opposed participating in Selector battles due to a traumatic prior experience, opting instead to endure the 90-day time limit despite gradual memory loss, driven by a desire to avoid harming others.

His involvement escalated solely to protect Chinatsu after her entanglement with the manipulative Kou Satomi ("Bookmaker"). Witnessing Chinatsu's distress under Satomi's influence, Shohei signed a contract; though Chinatsu delayed submitting it temporarily, this obligation eventually forced him into battles he morally opposed.

Shohei used a white WIXOSS deck centered on Living Spirit: Outcast cards featuring the Layer effect. Dona's ability, "Escape," allowed her to avoid attacks by wrapping herself in her scarf, reflecting his defensive play-style.

Throughout the incited events, he persistently attempted to reason with Chinatsu about Satomi's manipulation, meeting her after school and battling despite personal aversion. These efforts included revisiting their middle school to evoke past memories. His interventions provoked Satomi, leading to a high-stakes battle where Shohei lost two of his three remaining coins after Satomi revealed intentions to psychologically destroy Chinatsu.

In his final battle, Satomi compelled him to fight Rio Koshiba, another Selector down to her last coin. Before this, Shohei contacted Chinatsu to bid farewell and attempt a third confession, though he hesitated before completing it. During the match, he intentionally sacrificed himself to save Rio, resulting in the loss of his final coin. This act caused his physical disappearance and allowed Dona to assume his body; Dona mourned his loss as her LRIG card vanished.

His disappearance profoundly impacted Chinatsu Morikawa, contributing to her subsequent psychological trauma and eventual path toward redemption. In later conflated events, his absence continued to resonate emotionally with characters affected by his sacrifice, though he no longer actively participated.
