Description
Taiyou Asukawa begins as a timid, shy newcomer to Card Capital 2, where Chrono Shindou teaches him Vanguard, igniting his passion for the game. Driven by a fierce desire to become stronger, he joins the United Sanctuary branch and later Team Demise under Kouji Ibuki. This path triggers a stark transformation; Taiyou adopts a cold, calculating persona, wholeheartedly embracing the branch's creed that "weakness is a crime," a change mirrored physically by part of his hair turning white.

He faces Chrono in a tournament, leveraging deep data analysis to predict Chrono's moves, yet loses when Chrono strides Upheaval Pegasus. This defeat fuels Taiyou's resolve, leading to intense training. In their rematch during a special team battle, Taiyou counters Chrono's strategies effectively with Spearcross Dragon, demonstrating improved skill. However, Chrono triumphs again using Chronodragon Nextage and Chronojet Dragon. The loss, compounded by his teammates abandoning him, shatters Taiyou emotionally.

Following the defeat of United Sanctuary branch chief Yuichirou Kanzaki, Taiyou undergoes another profound shift. He rejects the branch's harsh ideology, reconciles with Chrono, and apologizes for his past actions. His cheerful demeanor resurfaces, and he learns to value friendship alongside strength. He fights alongside Chrono, Shion, Tokoha, and Am in the final battle against the Company during the Stride Gate arc.

Five months later in NEXT, Taiyou enrolls at Tokyo Metropolitan Harumi High School with Chrono. He joins Chrono's new team, Team Striders, alongside Kazuma Shouji. His appearance evolves: he retains his yellow hoodie but grows taller with longer hair, shedding his earlier intensity. Taiyou maintains a positive outlook, sharing a brotherly bond with Chrono. He confides in Chrono about matters like Planet Cray and Depend Cards, though he occasionally finds humor in Chrono's misfortunes. Taiyou uses a Gold Paladin deck featuring his ace unit, Sunrise Ray Knight, Gurguit. His surname "Asukawa" (Tomorrow River) and given name "Taiyou" (sun) linguistically align with Gurguit's themes.

His journey continues as Team Striders competes in the Under 20 Championship, reflecting Taiyou's enduring commitment to Vanguard as a source of joy and camaraderie.
