Description
Anavel Gato served as a prominent mobile suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War, assigned to Dozle Zabi's Space Attack Force. He fought in pivotal engagements including Operation British and the Battle of Solomon. Piloting a custom Rick Dom at Solomon, his combat prowess earned him the moniker "Nightmare of Solomon." During the fortress's fall, he commanded rear-guard actions, shielding retreating allies while inflicting heavy damage on pursuing Federation fleets. At A Baoa Qu, he piloted a custom Gelgoog before retreating aboard the Gwaden with Aiguille Delaz, persuaded to regroup for future resistance.

Post-war, Gato concealed himself within Von Braun City on the moon. There, he formed a romantic relationship with Nina Purpleton, an Anaheim Electronics engineer working on the Gundam Development Project. In UC 0081, he abandoned Nina to rejoin the Delaz Fleet, prioritizing his dedication to Zeon's cause over personal ties.

During Operation Stardust in UC 0083, Gato infiltrated Earth and stole the nuclear-capable RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis" from Torrington Base. He successfully delivered the unit to the Delaz Fleet. Later, piloting the Physalis, he attacked the Federation Naval Review at Konpei Island (formerly Solomon), detonating its nuclear weapon and destroying two-thirds of the fleet, achieving Operation Stardust's initial objective.

Initially dismissing Federation pilot Kou Uraki as inexperienced, Gato gradually acknowledged Uraki's developing skill through repeated clashes. Their confrontation culminated in a fierce duel at Konpei Island that destroyed both mobile suits. Subsequently, Gato received the AMX-002 Neue Ziel mobile armor from Axis Zeon forces. He utilized it to guide a colony toward Earth. Mortally wounded by Uraki during the operation's finale, Gato launched a final suicide attack, ramming the Neue Ziel into a Federation Salamis-class cruiser.

Gato adhered to a strict code of military honor, viewing opponents as misguided rather than hated enemies. He respected skilled adversaries and demonstrated fierce loyalty to comrades and superiors, especially Delaz. His contempt for those he deemed dishonorable was starkly evident in his revulsion toward Cima Garahau, whose One Year War actions he condemned as a betrayal of Zeon's principles.

Expanded media revisited his role: the manga *Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Rebellion* covered his actions during Operation Stardust, while the *Mayfly of Space 2* picture drama focused on Cima Garahau's backstory without adding new information about Gato.
