Description
Kazuya Taiga serves as a central anti-villain in the series. His appearance includes purple hair, a black and orange jacket, and light grey pants, with distinct purple markings manifesting beside his eyes after trading his soul to the Ultimates. Personality-wise, he exhibits seriousness, competitiveness, and a sore loser mentality, often dismissing defeats like his loss to Shunta Mogami as mere bad luck. He believes solely in victory’s significance, grows intensely excited during battles, and harbors deep resentment after failures. His obsession with strength traces to childhood when his father gifted him a Battle Spirits deck before departing on a trip, urging him to grow stronger for their promised match. When his father never returned, Kazuya fixated on strength as the key to reuniting with him. Though this drive initially won him friends, they abandoned him after his tournament loss to Shunta relegated him to second place.

Kazuya’s journey begins with a Battle Spirits tournament where he reaches the finals but loses to Shunta, igniting resentment and isolation. Later, Tatsumi and Shishi summon him to the Spirits World, exploiting his anger to target Shunta. They grant him The HorseTwelveGodKing Exeseed, which he claims as his rightful possession. Using it, he defeats Kengou and overpowers Shunta, destroying Shunta’s Imagine Brave. When General Inui demands Exeseed’s return, their clash halts upon Shunta obtaining the TigerTwelveGodKing and challenging Kazuya to a rematch. Kazuya accepts, aiming to seize the Tiger God-King, but suffers defeat, severe injuries, and loses Exeseed. He spurns Shunta’s invitation to join his group.

Collapsing injured in a desert, Kazuya is rescued by Shishi and treated at Tatsumi’s castle. Directed to a Soul Spot, he obtains Ocean Demon-God but voices disappointment it isn’t a 12 God-King card. He battles Yoku Albatrosa—dismissed as "Shunta’s extra"—to claim Yoku’s God-King, but loses and is mocked for Exeseed’s rejection. Taunted further by Inui and Kabuto, he challenges Tatsumi to prove his strength but is decisively beaten. Seeking greater power, Shishi guides him to the forbidden Ultimates. Kazuya trades his soul for this power, deeming it essential to his goals. Armed with Ultimates, he crushes Inui using The Hellflame FourDemonLord Bram-Zand’s Soul Drive, rejecting Inui’s Calamity-Boar card as worthless.

After Tatsumi’s defeat, Kazuya challenges Shunta again, wagering their remaining God-Kings. Though Bram-Zand is destroyed preemptively, he wins using The Hellwind FourDemonLord Vandiel’s Soul Drive. Despite achieving revenge, satisfaction eludes him. Following Tatsumi’s unlocking of The EvilGodKing, Kazuya collaborates with Shishi on schemes. He reveals a desire to reset the world into one where everyone loves him, citing others’ greater suffering as justification. During Shunta and Yoku’s battle, they expose Shishi’s deception, and Shishi notes Kazuya’s soul trade condemns him to nothingness. In his final clash against Shunta and Yoku, he chooses not to activate Burst Wall, resulting in defeat. Friends later encourage him to persevere, prompting his return to his world.

Kazuya employs five distinct Battle Spirits decks: an initial Blue/Green Hybrid Deck with spirits like Beatbeetle (Revival), The WindHero Dorcus-Ushiwaka, and Ocean Demon-God; a Red Deck featuring The HorseTwelveGodKing Exeseed, Rokceratops (Revival), and The BlackNinthBeast BloodySaber; and an Ultimate Deck—obtained via soul trade—with spirits like The Hellflame FourDemonLord Bram-Zand, The Hellwind FourDemonLord Vandiel, The EvilGodKing Deathpeers, plus support cards Burst Wall and Evil Draw. His battle record includes early losses to Shunta (episode 1) and Yoku (episode 25), a win against Kengou (episode 17), victory over Shunta with his Red Deck (episode 18), another loss to Shunta (episode 21), defeat by Tatsumi (episode 31), victory over General Inui using his Ultimate Deck (episode 32), a win against Shunta (episodes 39-40), and a final 2-on-1 loss to Shunta and Yoku (episodes 50-51).

He delivers dramatic summoning catchphrases: "Pierce everything with your flames of anger! Summon! The HorseTwelveGodKing Exeseed!"; "Come, god of the blue depths of the ocean! Summon! Imagine Brave! Ocean Demon-God!"; "Come forth now, flame donned in ultimate darkness! Dye the world black with infernal hellfire! Ultimate Summon! The Hellflame FourDemonLord Bram-Zand!"; and "The ultimate black overlord! Summon! The EvilGodKing Deathpeers!". His Ultimate Deck’s red and green color scheme positions it as a narrative rival to protagonists Shunta (red) and Yoku (green).
