Description
Chloe von Einzbern, also known as Kuro, originated as a distinct personality formed from Illyasviel von Einzbern's suppressed memories and knowledge. These memories were sealed within Illya during infancy by her mother, Irisviel von Einzbern, to grant Illya a normal life, as Illya was created as the key to Fuyuki's Holy Grail War. The sealing process inadvertently caused the suppressed memories to develop a separate consciousness, empowered by leaking wish-granting energy from Illya's Grail vessel. This entity later gained a physical form by harnessing the power of an Archer-class Servant card. Initially identifying as Illyasviel, she adopted the name Chloe von Einzbern, or the nickname Kuro, to avoid confusion.
Physically, Chloe resembles Illya but possesses tanned skin, white hair, and a distinct hairstyle. When accessing her Archer-class abilities, she wears a variation of EMIYA's outfit. Her personality contrasts sharply with Illya's, displaying greater calmness, analytical thinking, and a devious streak. She harbors deep bitterness over her sealing, resenting both her parents and Illya, whose wish for normalcy Chloe interprets as a rejection of her existence. This drove her initial attempts to eliminate Illya. Chloe possesses Illya's memories up to her own emergence and takes fierce pride in her original purpose as a Holy Grail vessel, rejecting any notion of being secondary.
Her primary abilities stem from the Archer-class card, granting proficiency in Projection Magic to replicate weapons like Kanshou and Bakuya or Caladbolg II. She exhibits high combat skill, strategic analysis akin to Mind's Eye, and drains magical energy (prana) from others through direct contact, primarily kissing, to sustain her form due to lacking independent mana generation. A significant limitation is a magical seal linking her to Illya, forcing Chloe to share all physical sensations, including pain or injury. Illya's death would also end Chloe.
Chloe's character develops substantially. After conflict and attempts on Illya's life, a confrontation leads to mutual understanding. Illya accepts Chloe as part of her existence, and Chloe admits her deepest desire is simply to live. This admission, combined with her inherent Grail power, stabilizes her form. Irisviel then formally adopts her into the Einzbern family as Illya's cousin. Chloe integrates into Illya's daily life, attending school and forming familial bonds, particularly an open affection for Shirou Emiya, expressing feelings Illya often suppresses. Her relationship with Illya evolves into a complex sisterly dynamic marked by teasing and arguments but also loyalty and mutual protection. She also forms a strong protective bond with Miyu Edelfelt.
In later events involving travel to parallel worlds, Chloe actively battles alongside allies like Bazett Fraga McRemitz and Gilgamesh against threats such as the Ainsworth family, utilizing her Archer abilities and projection magecraft. Within Fate/Grand Order, she is summonable as an Archer-class Servant, confirming her heroic spirit status. Her documented capabilities include the Noble Phantasm "Kakuyoku Sanren: Triple-Linked Crane Wings," alongside skills such as Mind’s Eye (False), Projection Magecraft, and Kiss Demon. Her class skills are Magic Resistance and Independent Action.
