Over time, his clothing retains the same elements but becomes less baggy. Initially assisting Professor Sycamore in Lumiose City’s Mega Evolution research, Alain rescued an injured Gible that Sycamore later raised into a Garchomp. He then hunted Mega Stones alone, tracking one to ruins where Lysandre seized it first. After Lysandre’s Pyroar defeated Alain’s Charmeleon, Lysandre offered him a Key Stone and Charizardite X, asserting their partnership would peacefully harness Mega Evolution energy while shielding Sycamore’s reputation. Alain accepted, believing this safeguarded his loved ones. Calm and stoic, Alain exhibits intense battle focus with minimal emotional display, yet fiercely resists losing—a trait amplified by his defeat to Siebold’s Mega Blastoise. Beneath his reserve, he guards those close to him, especially Mairin, often pushing them away to protect them. He repeatedly urged Mairin to abandon his perilous missions, convinced she weakened his strength and risked her safety. During one confrontation, he coldly dismissed her as a burden, causing her to flee in distress. Her Chespie wandered into a restricted lab and fell comatose after exposure to experimental Zygarde energy. Alain blamed himself and vowed to cure Chespie by fulfilling Lysandre’s Mega Evolution system. Across the Mega Evolution Specials, Alain journeyed with Charizard, battling Mega Evolution users to grow stronger. Mairin, admiring his skills, followed him to study Mega Evolution, forging a reluctant partnership. Their travels included clashes with Hoenn Champion Steven Stone and Legendary Pokémon like Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, and Mega Rayquaza. Lysandre later forced Alain into ten consecutive battles against Mega Evolution users, threatening confiscation of his Key Stone and Charizardite X upon any loss. Alain triumphed over foes including Mega Venusaur, Mega Alakazam, and Malva’s Mega Houndoom. His harsh rejection of Mairin during this challenge indirectly caused Chespie’s coma, deepening his guilt and resolve. In the XY series, Alain witnessed Ash Ketchum’s Greninja undergoing a unique transformation. After rescuing Pikachu from Team Rocket, he battled Ash, culminating in Charizard’s Mega Evolution victory. Later aiding Team Flare under Lysandre’s orders—such as capturing Zygarde Core cells—he defected upon uncovering their destructive goals. When Team Flare attacked Lumiose City, feeling betrayed, Alain allied with Ash to stop them. Post-conflict, he wrestled with remorse for enabling Lysandre but found new purpose through Ash’s support. Alain entered the Kalos League chiefly to battle Ash again, defeating him in the finals to become Champion. In Pokémon Journeys, he ranked 6th in the World Coronation Series Master Class and shifted to Mega Stone research. His team comprises Charizard (Mega Evolves to Mega Charizard X), Metagross, Tyranitar, Unfezant, Bisharp, Weavile, Chesnaught, and Malamar.
