This cooperation was partly secured by Machimiya's tactic of nursing Fujiwara in the wind-protected center of the group. After the pack absorbed several top riders, Taura enthusiastically explained their plan to seize the lead. However, Machimiya's team betrayed and abandoned the pack, prompting Taura's reaction of stunned disbelief and visible distress. Despite this setback, Taura and Ise persevered, ultimately finishing the race ahead of the Hiroshima team.
