Description
Serena's Pancham is a Fighting-type Pokémon first encountered as a wild creature interrupting a Pokémon Showcase performance, its break-dancing and acrobatics revealing an inherent desire for the spotlight. This mischievous tendency led to stealing items like Ash's hat and Clemont's glasses, actions stemming more from a performance aspiration than malice. Recognizing this ambition, Serena offered sunglasses during their initial encounter, which Pancham accepted and wore as a signature accessory. After aiding in rescuing Serena's Fennekin from Team Rocket, Pancham was captured and officially joined her team as her first caught Pokémon.
Pancham exhibits a complex personality marked by pride, playfulness, and protectiveness. He actively seeks attention through performance yet displays embarrassment when receiving affection, particularly disliking unwanted romantic attention like that from a Smoochum. Despite a tendency toward troublemaking, such as instigating conflicts or hoarding stolen props, Pancham demonstrates strong heroic instincts, readily intervening to protect others from danger, like defending Serena from Team Rocket shortly after meeting her. A defining trait is his intense rivalry with Clemont's Chespin, marked by frequent physical squabbles often triggered by Chespin. Though competitive, this rivalry allows cooperation in critical situations, such as jointly defending Fennekin or confronting threats.
Throughout Serena's journey to become Kalos Queen, Pancham served as a core performer in her showcases. He participated in dance routines, acrobatic displays, and assisted in baking Poké Puffs for judges. Training and performances were occasionally disrupted by conflicts with team members, such as an incident where Pancham accidentally broke Braixen's cherished twig using Stone Edge. After Braixen destroyed the remnants during a battle, Pancham sourced a replacement twig, which Serena then adorned with a red ribbon. His development included mastering coordinated techniques with Braixen and later Sylveon, contributing to Serena's showcase victories. Pancham also displayed unique communication abilities, negotiating with wild Pangoro due to their evolutionary relationship to resolve a conflict involving stolen food supplies.
Pancham's bond with Serena deepened through shared challenges. After Serena's early showcase loss, he comforted her alongside Fennekin, supporting her decision to cut her hair as a symbol of renewed determination. He remained fiercely loyal, visibly worrying about her during disagreements and celebrating her successes. His combat skills were utilized outside performances, employing moves like Dark Pulse and Stone Edge against opponents like Team Rocket or Gourgeist. His known moves include Stone Edge, Dark Pulse, Arm Thrust, and Ice Punch.
