Description
Originally owned by trainer Benny who sought to trade it for stronger Pokémon, Musashi's Sonansu (Jessie's Wobbuffet in English) became hers through an accidental exchange during a Pokémon swap meet. This occurred amidst a commotion caused by James encountering the Magikarp Salesman, leading Jessie to mistakenly place her Lickitung into a trading machine.

Wobbuffet typically displays a docile and vacuous demeanor. It shows strong loyalty to Jessie and Team Rocket, frequently emerging unprompted from its Poké Ball—especially during motto recitations—to participate. While initially annoying Jessie and Meowth, they grew accustomed to this behavior. Though generally compliant, Wobbuffet occasionally disobeys battle commands if it deems another strategy superior, leveraging its combat understanding.

Its battle style centers on defense, primarily using **Counter** against physical attacks and **Mirror Coat** against special attacks. These moves proved effective early on, such as defeating Ash's Chikorita, though Jessie's inconsistent tactical deployment sometimes limited its success. It once used **Bide** (called "Gaman" in Japanese, aligning with its species name), though this was a single occurrence outside its standard moveset.

Wobbuffet formed attachments beyond Team Rocket. It developed affection for a Kirlia, intervening to prevent Jessie's capture attempt. Later, after being rescued by Dr. White, it bonded with his female Wobbuffet. Despite briefly staying with them, it chose to return to Jessie, prioritizing loyalty over personal connection.

During the Alola League's Top 16 round, Wobbuffet battled James's Mareanie in a staged match meant to ensure Jessie's advancement. When Mareanie initiated real combat and James fought with unexpected determination, Wobbuffet lost despite its defensive efforts.

In Sinnoh, distortions in spacetime caused by Dialga and Palkia temporarily devolved Wobbuffet into Wynaut. Following the resolution of that incident and the defeat of an alternate-world Team Rocket, spacetime stabilization restored its evolved form.

Its design features a distinctive black tail with independently moving eyespots capable of blinking. Wobbuffet reacts aggressively if this tail is threatened. While female Wobbuffet have a red lipstick-like marking, supplemental materials consistently refer to Jessie's Wobbuffet with male pronouns.

It remains a permanent Team Rocket member across regions. After being left at headquarters during Unova, it rejoined Jessie in Kalos, demonstrating improved battle competence. Its tenure makes it the anime series' third most prominent Pokémon, following Ash's Pikachu and Team Rocket's Meowth.
