Description
Citron's Dedenne originated as a wild Pokémon in a forest near Lumiose City. Its initial encounter involved dropping a berry that Eureka caught, leading Dedenne to aggressively pursue Eureka and Pikachu to reclaim it, revealing its gluttonous nature. After Eureka returned the berry, a Fletchling stole and swallowed it, causing Dedenne to flee in distress. Days later, it reappeared to steal food from the group, triggering a chase that separated Dedenne and Pikachu from their trainers. While lost, they bonded and united against Team Rocket, defeating James' Inkay by combining Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt. Citron captured Dedenne at Eureka's request since she was too young to be a Trainer, and Dedenne subsequently resided outside its Poké Ball, usually in Eureka's purse or satchel.
Driven by a powerful desire for food like berries or treats, Dedenne exhibits a notably gluttonous personality. After eating or expending large amounts of electrical energy, it curls up to sleep, often at inconvenient times like during Team Rocket attacks. Though timid in certain situations, such as when startled by Fletchling, it developed a deep attachment to Eureka, frequently resting in her hair or purse. Dedenne shows affection by nuzzling, sometimes accidentally shocking others with its Nuzzle move. It communicates using electrical waves emitted from its cheek whiskers, a common trait among Electric-types.
Dedenne forged a sibling-like bond with Satoshi's Pikachu, conversing through cheek signals and battling together. It also formed a significant friendship with Satoshi's Numera, initially frightening the Dragon-type due to its Fairy typing. After protecting Numera from Team Rocket, Dedenne earned its trust; they shared food and reunited affectionately, with Numera (as Numelgon) nibbling Dedenne's ear. Dedenne demonstrated loyalty by tracking Numera via its slime trail when it fled during another Team Rocket encounter.
In combat, Dedenne utilized moves including Thunder Shock, Tackle, and Nuzzle. It defeated Citron's Harimaron when the overweight Grass-type tripped within range of its Thunder Shock. Dedenne also aided Serena's Yancham against Team Rocket by breaking its confusion with Nuzzle. Accidentally separated from Eureka, Dedenne was taken by a girl named Rin, who gave it a red ribbon. Sensing Pikachu's amplified electrical waves from Citron's invention, Dedenne fought off Beedrill with Thunder Shock to return to the group.
Dedenne reappeared later, reuniting with Satoshi, Pikachu, and Go. It watched Satoshi's World Coronation Series matches against opponents like Dracaena and Dande. When Satoshi and Serena departed Kalos, Dedenne became distressed and ran off, requiring comfort from Eureka who promised to make it her partner when she became a Trainer. As Citron's only non-evolving Electric-type and a recurring capture by a main character other than Satoshi, Dedenne was not used in Gym battles due to being under Eureka's care.
