Description
In this alternate 19th-century setting, Ulysses S. Grant is the former President of the United States. He spearheads international efforts against the threat of reanimated corpses and the pursuit of Frankenstein's research. Grant employs Hadaly Lilith as his secretary, leveraging her unique ability to control corpses using sound waves. He believes Frankenstein's original creation, The One, seeks vengeance against humanity and tasks John Watson and Frederick Burnaby with aiding its defeat.
Grant travels aboard the USS Richmond with Watson, Burnaby, and Hadaly toward America. When The One activates a signal using Frankenstein's research notes, the reanimated corpses on the ship become violent. Grant is killed during the attack by an exploding corpse's detonation. His death occurs before reaching San Francisco, removing him from subsequent events.
Grant's portrayal connects to themes of exploiting technological advancements for warfare. He demonstrates how nations leverage corpse engineering for military and political advantage, reflecting ongoing conflicts despite the use of undead soldiers, and highlights the global stakes surrounding the control and misuse of reanimation technology.
