Description
The Mushibugyō constitutes the insect magistrate office defending Edo from colossal "Mushi." Key members include Jinbei Tsukishima, who joins to restore his family's honor after his father Genjuurou deliberately maimed himself following an incident involving Jinbei and a local lord's son. This event drives Jinbei's commitment to protecting others despite initial inexperience. Jinbei possesses latent power manifesting as a pale-skinned, white-haired transformation under extreme duress, enhancing his strength. This ability links to his lineage and past life as a deity who answered rain prayers but failed to prevent villagers' slaughter, leading to his human rebirth. His combat evolves from raw determination to mastering Fugaku Ryuu's Taizangiri swordsmanship.

Hibachi, a female explosives-specialist ninja, seeks validation as her grandfather's successor while grappling with admiration for Mugai and growing affection for Jinbei. She eventually marries Jinbei. Mugai, the strongest warrior, wields a sword assimilating insect abilities; his stoic demeanor masks a traumatic past with the abandoned Insect Hunter Clan (Mushikari). Shungiku Koikawa, the former murderer "Killer of 99," joins to atone. His quest to avenge his mother's death culminates in confronting her killer, altering his self-perception. Tenma Ichinotani, a young onmyōji, battles crippling insect fear yet learns to command shikigami effectively. Kotori Matsunohara, the enigmatic commander, rarely engages directly but demonstrates lethal swordsmanship when necessary.

Kuroageha, the Mushibugyō magistrate, produces lethal skin toxins, isolating her until Jinbei's kindness fosters a bond. Mushikari weapons temporarily nullify her powers, altering her conflict role. She later marries Jinbei. Oharu, who meets Jinbei upon his Edo arrival, supports the team through her family's tea shop and develops a lasting relationship with him. Nagatomimaru, initially a reclusive scholar, is revealed as Ieshige Tokugawa, the shogun's heir; his friendship with Jinbei renews his governance commitment.

The narrative concludes with Jinbei marrying Oharu, Hibachi, and Kuroageha, fathering nine children collectively, reflecting his growth from novice warrior to a figure bridging societal divides.
