Description
Kakisuke is a talking monkey originating from Japanese folklore. As penance for killing a crab by throwing unripe fruit, an act causing grievous bodily harm that resulted in a lawsuit from the crab's family, he became one of Momotaro's animal companions. He deeply regrets this incident, and any mention of it causes him depression.
Following his defeat alongside Momotaro, Kakisuke was hired to work in Animal Hell. There, he serves as a torturer, specifically punishing souls who abused animals during their lives. He performs this role alongside his former companions, Shiro the dog and Rurio the pheasant, as part of hell's bureaucracy, tormenting souls.
In his daily work, Kakisuke maintains a cheerful and helpful personality. He is diligent and takes his responsibilities seriously, often exceeding required tasks, assisting colleagues, and handling various assignments within hell's operations. Despite this generally upbeat demeanor, the guilt from his past actions remains a defining aspect of his character, occasionally surfacing when the crab incident is referenced.
His character appears consistently across the series' seasons, OVAs, and spin-offs, including the Shiro-focused spin-off "Shiro no Ashiato," where his presence and interactions within Animal Hell are maintained.
