Description
Oruo Bozad served in the Scout Regiment's Special Operations Squad under Captain Levi's direct selection. His appearance suggested an older age than his peers, marked by pronounced wrinkles, light brown slightly curly hair styled in an undercut, and small hazel eyes. He deliberately imitated Levi, styling his hair similarly, wearing a cravat, and adopting a condescending expression. Brashly confident and boastful, Oruo held the highest solo Titan kill count in Levi's squad at 39 kills, with a total of 48 kills including team efforts, surpassed only by Levi. Despite his obnoxious demeanor, his claims were rarely taken seriously, and he exhibited clumsiness, often biting his tongue while riding horses. His mimicry of Levi's speech and attitude caused friction with squadmate Petra Rall, who found him irritating and unserious.
Oruo first appeared during the 49th expedition beyond the Walls, mocking Hange Zoë's proposal to capture a Titan. Hange physically confronted him, stressing the necessity of research. When Hange later pursued a Titan alone, Erwin Smith ordered Levi's squad to protect them. Oruo attempted to kill the Titan but hesitated due to Hange's protests, resulting in the Titan capturing him; Levi intervened to save him. After the expedition, Oruo apologized to Hange, deeming his life worthless compared to their research, though Hange insisted he never devalue his life.
During the Eve of the Counterattack, Levi's squad guarded Eren Jaeger, tasked with eliminating him if he lost control. Oruo openly distrusted Eren, subjecting him to harsh scrutiny. At the squad's headquarters, he expressed pessimism about Eren's control. When Eren accidentally partially transformed during training, Oruo immediately threatened to kill him. After the situation de-escalated, Oruo and the squad bit their hands in apology, hoping to earn Eren's trust.
Oruo participated in the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, primarily protecting Eren. As the squad entered a forest pursued by the Female Titan, Oruo and others urged Levi to engage it as it killed reinforcements, but Levi ordered them to stay focused. After the Female Titan's temporary capture, the squad retreated. When Gunther Schultz was killed and the Female Titan resumed pursuit, Levi ordered Eren to flee while the squad fought. Oruo, Eld Gin, and Petra Rall coordinated an attack, blinding the Titan and severing its arms. As Eld and Petra moved for a killing strike, the Titan regenerated and killed them. Enraged, Oruo lunged recklessly, slashing at its nape. The Titan hardened its nape, nullifying his strike, and killed him with a roundhouse kick.
Later, Eren Jaeger mentioned Oruo during the Royal Government arc as a victim affected by Titan power theft. In the Return to Shiganshina arc, Oruo appeared among fallen comrades in Erwin Smith's vision. During the War for Paradis, Hange Zoë invoked Oruo's memory while arguing against Eren's plan to destroy the world beyond the Walls, asserting he would not support it. After Hange's sacrifice stopping the Rumbling, Oruo was among the deceased Scouts who welcomed them. Following Eren's defeat, Oruo and other fallen Scouts appeared in Levi Ackermann's vision, saluting him before vanishing.
