Description
Mitsuru Kirijo is the heir to the Kirijo Group, a multinational corporation with significant scientific and technological influence. As student council president at Gekkoukan High School, she is also a founding member and the initial leader of SEES, the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, a group dedicated to investigating and eliminating supernatural threats called Shadows during the Dark Hour. Her family's history is deeply intertwined with the origins of the Dark Hour and Tartarus, as her grandfather's experiments led to their creation—a fact she initially conceals from other SEES members due to feelings of guilt and responsibility.

She carries herself with a composed, intelligent, and mature demeanor, projecting an image of unwavering confidence that masks internal struggles with trust and a sheltered upbringing that left her socially inexperienced. She addresses most people formally by their last names, reflecting her strict adherence to protocol, though she eventually becomes more familiar with teammates such as Yukari Takeba. Beneath her disciplined exterior lies a hidden enthusiasm for combat and a willingness to engage in new experiences, always balanced by a strong sense of duty and high academic expectations for her peers.

Her development is profoundly shaped by her relationship with her father, Takeharu Kirijo. She initially fights to protect him and alleviate the burden of shame he carried from the family's past mistakes. His death at the hands of the traitorous Shuji Ikutsuki during a pivotal betrayal plunges her into a crisis of faith and purpose. Disillusioned, she questions her reasons for fighting and withdraws from her leadership duties and social connections within SEES, convinced she has failed as both a leader and a daughter.

Her recovery begins through the intervention of Yukari Takeba, who challenges her to honor her father's legacy by moving forward instead of lamenting. This encouragement helps Mitsuru regain her resolve, leading to the evolution of her Persona, Penthesilea, into its ultimate form, Artemisia. This transformation symbolizes her acceptance of responsibility and her decision to confront the future directly, carrying out her father's will rather than running from it.

After the main narrative concludes, she graduates from high school and assumes leadership of the Kirijo Group. She reforms SEES into a broader organization known as the Shadow Operatives, dedicated to investigating and managing Shadow-related incidents on a larger scale. This group continues its work two years later, reflecting her ongoing commitment to protecting others from the threats her family helped create.

In combat, she wields a rapier and commands a Persona specializing in ice-based magic and skills that inflict status ailments like Charm and Panic. She functions as a powerful magic attacker with high damage potential against single targets and groups, though she remains weak to fire-based attacks. Her capabilities later expand to include support skills that increase critical hit rates against afflicted enemies.

In other media, following the original story, she supports Yukari Takeba through her own grief, fulfilling a promise to stand by her after Yukari's earlier help. She also participates in missions with the Shadow Operatives, such as investigating the disappearance of an anti-Shadow weapon, which draws her into new conflicts.
