Description
Kanta Ogaki is a twelve-year-old boy living in a rural village, with short dark brown hair, pale skin, and grey eyes. He typically wears a white polo shirt, brown shorts, a white sleeveless shirt, and a distinctive blue and white sailor hat.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ogaki and the grandson of an elderly woman known as Granny, who may be a community elder rather than a biological relation. His family runs a local farm.

Kanta is initially shy and awkward around the newly arrived Kusakabe sisters, hiding when he first sees them and later shouting that their house is haunted before dashing away, earning a scolding from Granny. This reveals his difficulty communicating with girls, especially Satsuki Kusakabe, on whom he develops a crush.

He demonstrates a kind and chivalrous nature when, during a rainstorm, he silently but forcefully offers his umbrella to Satsuki and her sister Mei before hurrying home, resulting in his mother scolding him for losing it. He is responsible and helpful, running errands for Granny and delivering an important telegram to the Kusakabe household.

The novelization briefly features his perspective, offering further insight into his feelings for Satsuki. The narrative contrasts him with another young couple, suggesting his affection may remain unrequited and positioning him ultimately as a friend.

He enjoys building and playing with model airplanes, a trait shared with the film's director. He attends the local school as a classmate of Satsuki. Though he assists in the search for a missing Mei, he does not directly interact with or witness the magical forest spirits the Kusakabe sisters encounter.
