Description
Bardiche is an Intelligent Device created for Fate Testarossa by Rynith, initially appearing as a golden triangular gem in Standby Form. Historically named after a medieval European polearm, it refers to its master as "sir" regardless of gender, reflecting an old-fashioned demeanor.
In the primary continuity, Bardiche sustains significant damage during Fate's first encounter with Signum in *A's* and requests an upgrade. Mariel Atenza modifies it into Bardiche Assault, incorporating a Belkan revolver-style cartridge system. This upgrade introduces Assault Form (retaining the original Device Form's axe-like appearance with added cartridges), Haken Form (an enhanced Scythe Form with additional fin blades), and Zanber Form (a Full Drive state generating a massive energy blade). Subsequent upgrades occur in *StrikerS* and *Force*, including Riot Blade (a compressed Zanber Form) and Riot Zanber (dual blades used with Sonic Drive), culminating in experimental fifth-generation capabilities that convert mana into physical energy to counter anti-magic effects.
The movie continuity redesigns several forms. In *The MOVIE 1st*, Bardiche's Device Form becomes Axe Form (featuring a rounded blade with elongated spikes), Scythe Form remains similar, and Sealing Form is replaced by Glaive Form (utilizing three energy blades for sealing and combat). After severe damage in *The MOVIE 2nd A's*, it upgrades to Bardiche Assault, featuring Bullova Form (equivalent to Assault Form), Crescent Form (equivalent to Haken Form), and Zanber Form. Due to narrative urgency, later forms like Haken and Assault are omitted. In *Reflection*, Bardiche Assault further upgrades to Bardiche Hornet, introducing Straight Saber Form (an enhanced Zanber Form with a wider hilt) and Javelin Form (optimized for bombardment). Bardiche Hornet's Standby Form alters to a saber hilt carried in a briefcase.
Bardiche's functions include Auto Guard (activating Defenser) and a six-cylinder revolver-style Cartridge System with a Speedloader for rapid reloading. It is also titled the "Battleaxe of Flash," originating from Rynith's description during its creation.
In spin-offs like *ViVid*, Bardiche appears alongside Fate but undergoes no major changes. *Force* depicts its fifth-generation upgrade for anti-magic combat. Alternate continuities, such as *Brave Duel*, adapt its forms without core narrative alterations.
