Description
Born in 2105 near Los Angeles, California, Deunan Knute descended from Scandinavian, French, and mixed Sudanese ancestry. Her father, Carl Knute, was a decorated war veteran and LAPD SWAT innovator; her mother, Gilliam Knute, a bioscientist who created the Bioroid race. Deunan witnessed her mother’s racially charged murder during childhood—either accidental shooting by a soldier or assassination for violating segregation laws—resulting in temporary memory loss she later vividly recalled. Carl rigorously trained her in combat, strategy, and survival from a young age.
By the early 2120s, she joined Carl’s LAPD SWAT unit, meeting Briareos and a young Hades. She later fought alongside Briareos in a US Army platoon during World War III/IV on the North African Front. After Briareos’ presumed death and America’s dissolution, she led a mercenary group across Europe and the Balkans until captured by ES.W.A.T.—including the now-cyborg Briareos—and taken to Olympus.
Reunited with Briareos in Olympus, Deunan joined ES.W.A.T. as a key operative. She grappled with PTSD-induced nightmares and flashbacks that gradually subsided. Navigating tensions among humans, Bioroids, and cyborgs amid conflicts like the Ark Project opposition, she maintained a complex partnership with Briareos, strained at times by her impulsiveness.
Deunan excels in combat, specializing in weapons, explosives, hand-to-hand fighting, and Landmate piloting—one of the first women to master it. She favors dark-fuchsia customized Landmates and firearms like the Seburo Bobson Centennial, alongside a Colt M1911 inherited from Carl. Her tactical ingenuity dominates wargames, often through ambushes or her signature "inverted assault." Despite occasional insubordination, she commands respect for professionalism. A feminist valuing independence and equality, she speaks multiple languages, sometimes using French phrases. Off-duty, she enjoys Moto-GP racing on her Coscom motorbike, socializing, wearing Prada, and drinking Chateau Montaigne Sauvignon Blanc—though alcohol affects her strongly. Her resting heart rate is 68 BPM, atypically high for her athleticism, and she blacks out under extreme gravitational forces. Minor health incidents include temporary one-eyed blindness requiring an eyepatch and implanted bio-regulators countering toxins/unconsciousness.
Personally warm to allies like Briareos or Hitomi yet aloof toward figures such as Commander Lance or Nike, Deunan combines quick-learning perfectionism with emotional volatility. Briareos encourages her self-reliance. She sleeps on floors—a habit from wasteland survival—and sets decoys against intruders.
