Description
Queen Mirage began as Mirage, a shrine maiden in Pikarigaoka 300 years before the main events. Serving as Cure Mirage, she fought alongside the deity Blue and her fairy partner PhanPhan to protect Earth. Her Cure form had coral red hair in a ponytail, turquoise eyes, a black-and-white vest, and a coral red skirt, wielding the Shining Make Dresser. Mirage developed romantic feelings for Blue, but he rejected her to prioritize his divine duties, causing profound heartbreak. This abandonment fueled hatred, leading her to reject love and happiness, corrupting her into Queen Mirage, ruler of the Phantom Empire.
As Queen Mirage, she commanded the Phantom Empire, seeking to conquer the Blue Sky Kingdom and Earth, replacing joy with despair. Her appearance transformed to feature light yellow hair, red eyes with a purple teardrop under the left eye, grey butterfly wings, and a black-and-white tuxedo top with a pale blue skirt. She wielded a staff that fired energy beams, summoned Saiark monsters, manipulated individuals like Cure Tender, and enabled communication through mirrors. Her advisors were Deep Mirror, who secretly manipulated her by exploiting her resentment of Blue, and generals Namakelder, Hosshiwa, and Oresky. Phantom, later revealed as her former fairy partner PhanPhan, showed unwavering loyalty and possible romantic devotion, often standing by her side.
Queen Mirage systematically targeted Pretty Cure teams, especially Cure Lovely, viewing her as a rival embodying love and connected to Blue. Their conflict culminated in a direct battle in episode 43, where Mirage assumed an enhanced form with a longer, sharper skirt and amplified powers. Cure Lovely's emotional appeals about love and forgiveness triggered Mirage's memories of past pain. Briefly swayed, Deep Mirror's interference reignited her rage. Cure Lovely, Cure Princess, Cure Honey, and Cure Fortune combined their powers to purify Mirage using an upgraded Innocent Purification. This purification restored her original kindness and reversed her appearance to black hair, dark blue eyes, and the apricot pink dress with blue tights of her civilian identity.
Restored, Mirage reconciled with Blue, who acknowledged his love for her. She accompanied Blue and Deep Mirror (revealed as Red) to restore Planet Red, committing to atonement. In a final act of closure, she blessed PhanPhan before departing. The name "Mirage" reflects her character arc, symbolizing the illusion of her evil persona and the unattainable hope of love during her corrupted phase. She remains the only antagonist confirmed to have originated as a Pretty Cure.
