Description
Miyu Okamoto is a third-year high school student and one of the main members of the idol group Wake Up, Girls! She was born on September 8, 1995, with blood type O, stands 162 centimeters tall, and weighs 48 kilograms. Her physical measurements are 80 centimeters for bust, 60 for waist, and 86 for hips. She has light brown hair and petrol-colored eyes. Miyu is the second oldest member of the group and was the first to be recruited by manager Kouhei Matsuda during his initial scouting in late 2013.
Her personality is defined by a contrast between a naturally cheerful, bubbly, and supportive demeanor and a deep-seated indecisiveness and tendency to cry easily. She is self-described as twin-tailed and incompetent, and others note that her emotions are quick to surface, making her something of a crybaby. Despite these insecurities, she is always happy and willing to participate in almost anything, and she enjoys being the center of attention while respecting the other members.
Miyu works part-time at a maid cafe in Sendai, a job she deliberately chose as a way to challenge and change her weak, crybaby nature. Her involvement in Wake Up, Girls! is an extension of that same desire to grow stronger and more confident. She is also an idol otaku, meaning she has a deep passion for idol culture, which gives her a fan's perspective within the group.
In the story of Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter, Miyu continues to perform alongside the other six members as they navigate the harsh reality of the idol industry during an idol recession. Her role is that of a supportive and enthusiastic presence, often bringing energy to the group, though her vulnerability and occasional clumsiness also show her growth arc as she learns to overcome her doubts. Her key relationships are with her fellow group members, particularly the other original members like Mayu Shimada and Airi Hayashida, with whom she shares the journey of striving for success under the management of the small Sendai agency Green Leaves Entertainment.
Miyu's development throughout the series centers on gradually building self-assurance, using both her part-time job and her idol activities as platforms to become more decisive and less prone to tears. Her notable abilities are not specialized skills but rather her natural cheerfulness, her ability to connect with fans through her maid cafe experience, and her genuine love for being an idol, which helps her persevere through difficulties.
