Description
Karen Minazuki, known as Cure Aqua, serves as a central character in the Pretty Cure franchise. She attends L'École des Cinq Lumières as a third-year student and student council president. Due to her parents' frequent work absences, she lives under her butler Jii-ya's care. This upbringing fuels underlying loneliness masked by a composed, stoic demeanor that earns peer admiration. Academically driven, she memorizes all students' names and faces, reflecting her deep sense of responsibility.

Her personality blends intelligence with reservedness. Initially enthusiastic about her student council role, she later feels burdened by its demands yet persists out of duty. Typically calm, she becomes harsh when stressed or angered, occasionally making hurtful remarks like criticizing her best friend Komachi's indecisiveness. An unexpected fear of scary things surprises her friends. Through her Pretty Cure journey, she gradually opens emotionally—making jokes and embracing joy via team camaraderie.

Key relationships shape her growth. Her closest bond is with Akimoto Komachi, a fellow student council member who supports her unconditionally. Their friendship began when Komachi encouraged Karen during a discouraging first-year class project. Her initially contentious relationship with Natsuki Rin evolves into mutual respect as they discover shared traits beneath clashing exteriors. She shares a protective, affectionate dynamic with the fairy Milk, typical of Cure-fairy partnerships. Professionally, she pursues medicine, learning empathy by treating the distrustful patient Shinozaki Nana and eventually earning her trust.

As Cure Aqua, the "Pretty Cure of Intelligence," she commands water-based powers. Her transformation involves activating the Pinky Catch or CureMo device while declaring "Pretty Cure metamorphose!," enveloping her in blue light or water before emerging transformed. Physical changes include bright blue hair in a long ponytail with a butterfly-shaped bow and blue butterfly earrings. Her costume features a pale yellow or blue dress with butterfly motifs, ruffled details, and blue boots.

Her attacks focus on water manipulation:
- Aqua Stream: Summons a spiraling water stream from her palm to purify enemies.
- Aqua Tornado: Channels water through her Aqua Ribbon accessory into a powerful whirlpool.
- Sapphire Arrow: Forms a water-archery bow firing a drill-like torrent that culminates in a blue butterfly upon purification.

Movie-exclusive forms enhance her abilities:
- Super Cure Aqua (from *Yes! Pretty Cure 5: Kagami no Kuni no Miracle Daibouken!*) adds butterfly wings for flight, power amplification, and a costume with extended frills and wilder boots.
- Cure Rainbow Aqua (from *Pretty Cure All Stars DX 2: Kibou no Hikari - Rainbow Jewel o Mamore!*) features a pale blue feathered outfit, small golden wings, and neon blue hair.

She appears in *All Stars New Stage 3: Eien no Tomodachi*, joining other Cures to rescue children trapped in dreams per the film's premise.

Her civilian wardrobe evolves across media:
- *Yes! Pretty Cure 5*: Pale blue ruffled dress and boots.
- *GoGo!*: Two-piece outfit with ruffled accents.
- Movies: Elaborate designs like a light purple fluffy-trimmed coat (*Kagami no Kuni no Miracle Daibouken!*) or dark blue princess gown during amusement park scenes.
- Adulthood: Professional attire like a doctor's coat with ponytail, or casual combinations such as a dark lavender blouse with skirt.
