Description
El Quixote is an elderly Dragon Knight originating from Dragon World, accompanied by his dragon partner Rocinante. Rocinante possesses a slight equine resemblance and can disguise itself as a large dog. Initially perceived as eccentric by fellow Dragon Knights—notably for actions like attacking a windmill he mistook for a monster—El Quixote embraced these behaviors driven by personal conviction and desire. This reputation led others to dismiss him as ineffective or insane.
Arriving on Earth, he observed the young Buddyfighter Noboru Kodo. El Quixote recognized flaws in Noboru's Dragon Knight deck strategy, particularly its tendency to rapidly deplete gauge resources. Despite initial rejection, he persisted in offering guidance. He revealed his true form after Noboru lost a critical match due to gauge mismanagement, solidifying their partnership as Noboru's Buddy Monster.
As Noboru's mentor, El Quixote provided tactical advice during the ABC Cup preliminary matches, though his constant input occasionally annoyed Noboru. His influence extended beyond gameplay; when Noboru considered quitting Buddyfighting, El Quixote counseled him on pursuing personal fulfillment regardless of others' opinions. This guidance helped Noboru rediscover his passion, especially the heroic feeling of fighting alongside Dragon Knights. El Quixote further demonstrated loyalty by activating his buddyskill to shield Noboru from a criminal fighter's attack.
Strategically, he advised Noboru to include Vlad Dracula in his deck for a match against Magoroku Shido, accepting potential imbalance for greater power. This risky adjustment contributed to Noboru's victory and symbolized Noboru's growing courage to embrace individuality. After the Gaen Cup, El Quixote accompanied Noboru to the USA. Upon their return to Japan for the Gaen Cup, his adoption of American slang surprised peers.
In later conflicts, he identified the Purgatory Knights—legendary warriors originally from Dragon World—fighting alongside the Darkness Dragon World faction, expressing confusion over their shifted allegiance. He also participated in multiversal crisis discussions, attending a Disaster hideout meeting with representatives from various worlds to address a mysterious threat.
His abilities include "Glorious Charge," which adds the top deck card to the gauge upon damaging an opponent. He also possesses a protective buddyskill activated to defend Noboru from physical attacks.
Naming and inspiration derive directly from Miguel de Cervantes' *Don Quixote*, sharing the novel's themes of perceived madness driven by idealism. El Quixote references this connection, noting his name aligns with the "second-most popular novel," paralleling Noboru's status as the "second-best" fighter.
A trivia note confirms he is one of few Buddy Monsters whose SD Form disguises his monstrous identity.
