TV Special
Description
Ben is the male protagonist option. If the player selects the female protagonist Summer, Ben serves as her fellow Ranger partner throughout the storyline, partnered with a Staraptor. Choosing Ben as the protagonist grants him Latios's Guardian Sign; he functions as Summer's narrative counterpart.

He has brown hair and black eyes. His attire is the standard blue Top Ranger uniform, accessorized with a yellow scarf, red goggles, and a newly designed Capture Styler functioning like the Fine Styler.

His personality embodies Ranger values: protecting Pokémon and nature. He shows deep concern for endangered Pokémon and a strong protective instinct towards his partner, Summer. This is demonstrated when he intercepts an attack from the antagonist Red Eyes aimed at Summer during a pursuit of Latios or Latias. Taking the blast causes him to fall into the ocean, separating him from his Capture Styler. After the main story concludes, narrative elements indicate Ben harbors romantic feelings for Summer.

The story opens with Ben and his Ranger partner pursuing the Pokémon Pinchers chasing Latios (if Ben is the player) or Latias (if Summer is the player) while flying on Staraptors. During this aerial chase, Red Eyes fires a plasma weapon. Ben positions himself to shield his partner, absorbs the blast, and plummets into the sea. He washes ashore on Dolce Island, separated from his captured partner. His Capture Styler is damaged but later recovered.

On Dolce Island, Ben encounters a distinctive Pichu carrying a ukulele. Initially wary, the Pichu mistakes Ben for a threat. Ben successfully calms and captures it, forging a partnership. He later assists in repairing Pichu's broken ukulele, solidifying their bond. This Ukulele Pichu becomes Ben's constant partner Pokémon, accompanying him on his mission against the Pokémon Pinchers across Oblivia. Pichu's musical ability calms other Pokémon, aiding capture efforts.

Ben undertakes critical missions opposing the Pinchers and restoring peace to Oblivia. These include retrieving special wood to repair Pichu's ukulele, salvaging a sunken Pincher aircraft (a Z.Z. Flyer) from the Coral Sea using a Lapras, and liberating the Wireless Tower on Mt. Latolato alongside the local Ranger, Rand. During these missions, Ben encounters and calms Agitated Pokémon controlled by the Pinchers, often freeing them. He discovers ancient ruins and monuments tied to Legendary Pokémon like Raikou and Celebi, uncovering the significance of the Guardian Signs.

In the anime adaptation, Professor Hastings at the Ranger Union directly tasks Ben with protecting Latios in Oblivia. Ben captures a Staraptor for transport. Confronted by the Pinchers and Red Eye, Ben is shot down while protecting Latios. He washes ashore on Dolce Island, encounters the Ukulele Pichu, and captures it. Ben and Pichu confront Red Eye in a cave attempting to steal the Raikou Ranger Sign. Red Eye's controlled Cranidos attacks Pichu, breaking its ukulele. Ben captures the Cranidos to free it, but Red Eye escapes with the Sign. The confrontation culminates outside the cave with Raikou's arrival.
