Description
Gamlin Kizaki was born on January 17, 2026, in HG Wells City on Mars. A defining childhood memory occurred at a family funeral, where the distant roar of jet fighters captured his attention; he watched their ascent into the sky with a deep longing that solidified his ambition to become a pilot.

He enrolled in the U.N. Spacy Aviation Academy as a scholarship student at age 15 and completed its demanding three-year program in just two years. His unit trained under Space War I veteran Milia Fallyna Jenius, who put them through a spartan regimen of high-G tests and intense combat simulations. For his final exam, Gamlin executed a full vertical ascent from ground to orbit in a VF-11C Thunderbolt—a feat only he accomplished, earning his graduation and a post with the elite Diamond Force squadron.

In 2045, during the Macross 7 fleet's conflicts with the Varauta Army and Protodeviln, Gamlin served as an ace in Diamond Force. He initially clashed with civilian musician Basara Nekki, whose tactic of singing at the enemy from a modified VF-19 Excalibur struck him as confusing and unprofessional. This rivalry grew more complex as Gamlin developed feelings for Mylene Flare Jenius, bassist of Fire Bomber, who was also drawn to Basara. Milia Jenius, then mayor of City 7 and his former instructor, encouraged him to pursue Mylene, further intertwining his personal and professional obligations.

Over time, Gamlin came to understand and respect Basara's methods, particularly after seeing the music revive Spiritia-deprived victims. He nearly died during the assault on planet Varauta but escaped aboard Battle 7. Following the death of Diamond Force leader Kinryu, Gamlin assumed command of the squadron, which was reorganized into a specialized defense unit for City 7 reporting directly to Mayor Milia Jenius.

He piloted multiple variable fighters throughout his service. As Diamond Force captain, he first flew a VF-17S Nightmare, later switching to a VF-17D after his unit was shot down. In emergencies, he also operated other craft, including Milia Jenius' personal VF-1J Valkyrie—destroyed by the Protodeviln Sivil—and an Az-130A Panzersoln from the Varauta Army during an escape. In the final battle against the Protodeviln, he flew a VF-11D Thunderbolt "Jamming Bird" with Mylene Flare Jenius as his copilot.

By 2047, as seen in Macross Dynamite 7, Gamlin piloted a VF-22 Sturmvogel II for Diamond Force. Mylene Flare Jenius tasked him with locating the missing Basara Nekki on the planet Zola. There, he collaborated with local law enforcement to halt a group of Galactic Whale poachers, though he arrived too late to intercept Basara, who had already departed in a commandeered VF-11B Thunderbolt.

The manga Macross 7th Chord, set in 2053, depicts Gamlin wearing a suit and working as a manager assigned to the Harmonics Research Institute. His role involves educating protagonist Mio Levinas on forming the "New Sound Force."

Gamlin's personality is serious and reserved, yet he displays a surprising awkwardness in romantic situations, sometimes approaching them like military operations. He insists on following protocol but is willing to voice dissent and take calculated risks when necessary. His hobbies include reading, skydiving, and building bottle ships, though the latter two were not depicted in the series. Born into a Zentradi family with Japanese citizenship, he maintains cultural traditions such as presenting Mylene with a kimono meant to calm the heart.

His relationships form a core part of his narrative. His fascination with Mylene Flare Jenius deepens into love, complicated by her attachment to Basara Nekki. His dynamic with Basara evolves from hostile confusion to mutual respect. He retains professional regard for his former instructor, Milia Fallyna Jenius, though her personal advice concerning Mylene adds layers to their interaction. His dealings with Diamond Force wingman Physica S. Fulcrum remain mostly professional, though he once sought marital counsel from the married man.
