OVA
Description
Mylene Flare Jenius, the seventh and youngest daughter of Maximilian Jenius and Milia Fallyna Jenius, was born in February 2031. By age 14 in 2045, she resided independently in an apartment aboard City 7. Her parents held prominent positions within the Macross 7 fleet – her father as captain of the Battle 7 and her mother as mayor of City 7. Their separation and intense focus on duties contributed to a complex family dynamic, with both projecting protective instincts onto her. Milia actively arranged an Omiai meeting to pair Mylene with her protege, U.N. Spacy pilot Gamlin Kizaki. Though initially apprehensive, Mylene developed a genuine friendship with Gamlin, who later developed romantic feelings and became protective.

Defying parental expectations, Mylene pursued a music career. She joined the rock band Fire Bomber as bassist and additional vocalist, performing alongside lead vocalist Basara Nekki, Ray Lovelock, and Veffidas Feaze, drawing inspiration from singer Alice Holiday. Concurrently, she demonstrated exceptional natural piloting skills inherited from her parents, effortlessly adapting to variable fighters like Basara's VF-19 Excalibur Custom and her mother's former VF-1J Valkyrie. These skills led to her involvement with Sound Force, piloting a customized VF-11MAXL Thunderbolt modified to resemble an electric bass guitar, though her combat performance could be affected by emotional outbursts.

Her Zentradi heritage became a significant point of contemplation during her casting as Lynn Minmay in "The Lynn Minmay Story," a film depicting Minmay's role in Space War I. Meeting full-sized Zentraedi actors caused discomfort, prompting discussions with Ray Lovelock about her lineage and the realization she carries "the blood of giants." Throughout the conflict against the Protodeviln and Varauta Army, Mylene displayed consistent bravery. She actively participated in Sound Force missions, using her singing voice – noted for its powerful yet calming tone capable of generating significant Song Energy, especially when paired with Basara's – as a weapon against enemies immune to conventional arms. She fought in pivotal battles, including the final confrontation against Lord Geperunitch alongside her parents.

Mylene experienced several dangerous situations. During the Minmay film production, she was nearly assaulted by co-star Bobby Margot, who attempted to lure her to a secluded area under false pretenses before his Spiritia was drained. Later, in the Dynamite 7 OVA, she was drugged and nearly sexually assaulted by producer Sazapie after a recording session, requiring rescue by her pet Gubaba who alerted Ray and Veffidas. She also faced repeated peril from Protodeviln attacks and Spiritia-draining "vampires."

Her character development involved navigating complex personal feelings. She admired Gamlin but developed intense, often jealous, feelings for Basara Nekki, creating a love triangle. Basara largely remained oblivious to her romantic interest, viewing her more as a child, causing Mylene significant frustration. She found relief when Gamlin and Basara eventually overcame their rivalry, though the resolution of her romantic feelings remained ambiguous. Short features in "Macross 7 Plus" provided additional insights into her daily life: "Good Morning Mylene" depicted her routine at home, interactions with her mother's messages, and reactions to Basara's battlefield antics; "City Police 24 Hours!" humorously exaggerated her involvement in police actions against Protodeviln threats, inaccurately crediting her for takedowns performed by others. Her piloting versatility extended beyond the VF-11MAXL to include the VF-19 Excalibur Custom (as co-pilot), the VF-1J Valkyrie, and the VF-11D Thunderbolt "Jamming Bird."
